Introduction Libraries being proactive in the latest trends and practices is multifaceted and requires many different approaches to achieve. This paper will examine different management models that have proven effective for libraries, looking at the past for guidance, trends in libraries, continuing education in library professionals, and a plan of action for libraries.
Management Models There are several different types of management and assessment models libraries have adopted throughout the years. The Kirkpatrick Model, the Kirkpatrick Plus Model, and Goal Setting will be explored as management models in today’s libraries.
Kirkpatrick Model
The Kirkpatrick Model is one way of assessing the effectiveness of Continuing Education Programs

Impact to society is important to measure because libraries are a public service and CEPs often train librarians, and this should affect the public in some way. Watkins, et al., go on to explain that in the Kirkpatrick model, the questions for assessment are developed at the end of the Program, but in the Kirkpatrick plus model, the questions are developed prior to the program’s start or during the program (1998). It is easy to skew results if the questions that assess the value of a program are compiled after the program is complete. According to Watkins, et al., the Kirkpatrick model has resulted in adequate evaluation in the past, but the new, added societal value element will allow for the best evaluation of CEPs in the modern age (1998). Creating end goals that drive the assessment of CEPs will allow librarians to act in a manner that is proactive instead of …show more content…
The Kirkpatrick and Kirkpatrick Plus models were explored as methods of evaluating the efficacy of CEPs. Goal setting was briefly described as an important component of planning and staying proactive in library operation. The past provides a key to understanding the way the future will head, and this was explained earlier in the paper. Open Access, interoperability, digital movement and the 24- hour library were explained as current trends in the information world. The importance of CEPs and a cohesive plan of action are the last two things discussed in the

1Hey Tasha, I like many of your points. I love the points about how your organization implements a system. I am a computer hobbyist and appreciate how complex working with technology is and it would be very easy for departments to lose touch with each other. And a system is critical to keeping all of those parts together.
In 1972, G.S. Graham and P.J. Denning, developed the Graham-Denning Model that shows how subjects and objects should be securely managed to include creation and deletion. It also addresses how to assign specific access rights. The model is set up based on subject, object, and rules that tie in both. The Graham-Denning model resolves the security questions related to defining a set of specific rights on “how particular subjects can execute security functions on an object.” (Pfleeger & Pfleeger, 2003)
I found this important because it almost as if standardized testing has become about business and politics, not education. For example, When Congress increased this year’s budget for the Department of Education by $11 billion, it set aside $400 million to help states develop and administer the tests that the No Child Left Behind Act Mandated for children in grades 3 through 8. Among the likely benefactors of the extra funder were the four companies that dominate the testing market—three publishers and one scoring firm
There is high risk with this model, however the degree of risk can be controlled by acquiring information on the probability of the selected alternative producing the desired outcome. Another option would be the Incremental Model. With this model, Mr. Miller would work with the faculty and other individuals to establish instructional goals. Mr. Miller could then return to the issues surrounding ability grouping to determine whether the decision would enhance goal attainment. Mr. Miller could also choose the Mixed Scanning Model.
This data helps to “make decisions that are of prominent educational, financial, or social impact.” (Kubiszyn & Borich, 2013, p25) They are used to determine if students will be promoted to the next grades, receive a high school diploma, as well as
According to both men, their methods have been applied successfully. Clearly, they believe that their approaches benefit the students. Coates quotes that at one of the schools the program is applied at, the number of people at grade level in math rose from 9% of the student body to 62% after the implementation of the program, and grade level in English went up from 12% to 40%. On the other hand, Rosenblum mentions that a study found that exam scores rose by 1.7% with the ban of computers in the classroom.
From the case it is evident that Cisco’s ERP implementation was a success and the following are the success factors 1. Organizational structure – ERP implementations are relatively smoother in centralized organizations than in decentralized ones. Morgridge, Cisco’s CEO, maintained a centralized functional organisation – manufacturing, customer support, finance, HR, IT and sales organizations were centralized. Hence for Cisco it was more of software replacement than change management (compared to the kind of resistance to ERP and accompanying standardization in decentralized organizations).
First we will learn information about its history and its use in today’s America. Second we will see how they don’t work. Finally we will offer simple, yet effective solutions to our standardized testing issue History So let’s go way back to see where our issues started. According to Time magazine on Friday, December 13, 2011 the

10). Those who come from different educational backgrounds or possess different learning styles require distinct approaches in teaching that a standardized gauge of knowledge does not allow. In addition to these inaccurate measurements, standardized testing does not provide useable information to teachers. Effective assessments should gather feedback that teachers can use to the benefit of students, such as insight into a student’s way of learning and thinking ("Standardized Testing Has Serious Limitations." para. 10).
Houle (1989), emphasizes that every professional has a need to be able to carry out their duties according to the highest possible standards of character and competence and one way to meet this is to engage in a lifelong study and to achieve its greatest potential, continuing education must fulfill the promise to its name and be truly be continuing and not casual, sporadic or opportunistic. This fact means essentially that it must be self-directed and each professional must be the ultimate monitor of his or her own learning, controlling the stable or shifting design of its continuity. Houle further argues that continuing education must be based not only on content oriented goals of keeping up with the new development; it must also be designed to facilitate changes in life patterns or career lines. Accordingly, Fryer (1997) states that learning at the workplace will need to accommodate the needs and interests of a variety of stakeholders, including employees, employers, customers, government and providers.
Implementing the e-commerce will require Catatech to have formal IT to take an increase in demand and this will fail in Catatech seeing that the communication within the corporation is very poor. We believe Catatech should have the new IT system before strategy implementation in order to get better results. Implementing a new strategy without the proper IT can affect the current ERP system of the company due to incompetent use of the company’s resources. The new IT system will make it easier for Catatech to implement a
From this, a business plan is formulated and solutions are provided. These will be outlined in this section. The first issue is that the company has opened too many stores and almost all of them are competing with a local Barnes & Noble’s. This situation can be remedied by making it clear to everyone in the company that no physical stores should be opened anymore.
