My Beliefs
I believe a library is a place for learning first and foremost and that the resources should reflect a diverse population. I believe that a library is a place that students can learn real-world skills for the 21st century. I believe that a library is a place that supports the classroom curriculum and independent inquiry.
B.M. Williams Primary Mission Statement
The mission of B.M. Williams Primary School is to instill within all students a love of learning, a strong academic foundation, respect for diversity, and positive character development through a comprehensive program in a safe, clean, supportive environment that includes differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each child and encourages collaboration among faculty, staff, parents, and community.

The students are told that they can check out the eBooks on their own device or if they need to they can check out one of the library’s Kindles to download the eBook. The librarian concludes the lesson by reading an eBook to the class on the Smartboard. After the story students go to find and check out books. The library clerk positions herself at the circulation desk. A library volunteer that has been shelving books is available to assist students to find books and answer questions. Lubbock Christian University is a private Christian higher education institution. LCU comes from a Church of Christ background and implements their beliefs. The LCU mission statement is “Lubbock Christian University is a Christ-centered, academic community of learners, transforming the hearts, minds, and hands of students for lives of purpose and service.” They have a very strong mission that is lived out daily at the university. As a student at LCU I am able to see day to day procedures and actions.

The goal of this activity was to build students reading skills by working them through the subject and allowing them to discuss amongst each other any information that relates to the subject of the reading. It is also intended to help the students think as they read. This helped enable the students understand the subject of the reading, offer their own insight, and identify words more easily. This will also allow students to identify new words and will increase their ability with word identification and reading skills.
