The state of North Carolina has several mental health agencies that target the specific needs of youth and adults within the community. Each agency must oblige by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulations of Mental Health Licensure and Certification Section ( DHSR) as an operating facility. By Law, mental health agencies must be equipped with licensed professionals that are able to conduct assessments and create service plans for their clients. To obtain this license a counselor must obtain a counseling degree from an accredited University and take the state board counseling test to receive their License Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA). This is the current status that Mrs. Stroman holds with the state of North Carolina.
They “establish norms and expectations for practitioners in order to collectively minimize the risk of harm to clients and the general public” (Francis & Dugger, 2014, p. 131). Moreover, the codes serve as a model or as a blueprint for behavioral and professional expectations while serving as an LPC or LMFT and who represent something much larger than themselves. “Professional associations [that oversee counselors]…have a vested interest in the behavior of their members” (Pipes, Holstein, & Aguirre, 2005, p. 325). Another advantage of these codes is they are easy to read and understand. One last positive attribute is because the codes specify how licensees should act both on- and off-duty the license holder has a measure from which to judge his or her interpersonal relationships.
Introduction The Medical industry within the Veterans Health Administration is an infamous subject matter concerning healthcare around the world. Largely, the costs of healthcare and pharmaceuticals companies together compound expensive endeavors that effect many companies, challenge the minds of theoretical researchers, and influence numerous government rules and regulations. The social responsibility of the medical industry is important for the industry to up-hold because this is the industry that provides care for others. With this care come many other areas to make the care of health flow for the individuals who come in for care.
This process is important because counselor advocacy extends itself by influencing policy at various levels and enhances components that affect the practice of clinical mental health counseling. Advocacy is important because it works to remove barriers and challenge social injustices that impede the wellness for clients and society (Kiselica & Robinson, 2001). For example, supporting counselor advocacy is important because counselors can benefit by acknowledging and understanding that there must be a multiple systems approach to counseling. At the local level, counselor advocacy is both necessary and important for the purpose of building coalitions and collaborating to inform various societal entities about the benefits of mental health services and its impact. At the state and national level, counselor advocacy work can inform particular legislative bodies about the particular types of impacts that would occur if there is limited or a lack of mental health resources available to particular populations (Kiselica & Robinson,
Section 1: Professional Development Plan For most of my life I have been motivated to help people so when I made the decision to continue my education at Walden University, I knew that I was ready for the journey. I am currently seeking a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I am expected to graduate in the winter of 2025. This paper was written on June 30th, 2023, with the intent of further understanding my motivations for seeking this degree as well as visualizing the type of counselor I want to be in the future. Throughout this paper, I also discuss what is expected of me throughout my degree program, counseling career, and overall professional development.
A little over two years ago, I started working as a Community Support Individual for Pathways Transition Programs LLC. My primary responsibility is to teach children various coping skills to manage their behavior, I have determined that I want to be able to address the emotions behind the behaviors. My desire is to be able to help the children I work with come to terms with their past histories so they can move on in their lives towards adoption and other positive outcomes. Sometimes, the children are still going through issues such as, on-going traumas, the lost of a parent due to death or incarceration, etc and I would like to develop the skill set to be able to address these issues. I see pursuing my degree through Argosy University as being the next step to take in order to develop a competency in counseling.
With national security playing such sizeable a role today, it is an important to ask questions about the effects it has on the military personnel. It is known that veterans go through a lot to protect, serve, and defend this nation for a better tomorrow. But in response to their actions to benefit America, does american citizens and it’s government do all to support our veterans. Are they appropriately being awarded compensation as of loss, injury, and suffering? With the number of veterans growing will they all receive recognition for their efforts as an individual and a whole?
In order to obtain both, I will have to complete every required course, along with supervision opportunities offered. My ultimate goal is to open up a private practice, where other therapist and counselors can come together along with me to offer services to clients in need of our assistance. Although, to fully accomplish this goal I have to work hard and stay focus on what I want to achieve. The practitioner- scholar model has helped me organize my ideas and analyze different things in a more diverse and open way. I am able to use this model within my career, although it's for Graduate learners, I honestly believe that it's helpful for any
Most leaders within our agency were either counselors at some point or they have Rehabilitation Counseling degrees. I believe in being knowledgeable in all aspects of our operations, especially in the broadest service provided by our agency, rehab counseling. This program is the first step in securing a future within the agency. While I love my current role, I look forward to continuing with the progress that I have made within the agency. I look to gain knowledge and first-hand experience of being a counselor so that I can apply what I learn to agency programs.
I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. There has been a focus on primary care medicine since the Affordable Care Act; resulting in a larger need for nurse practitioners required to care for this patient population. I have been granted an opportunity to advance my career and I am more than ready to take on the added responsibilities and handle treatment plans autonomously, as well as learning additional skills such as diagnosing and prescribing medications. By obtaining my graduate level education my clinical judgment would be enhanced to improve safety, quality of care and patient outcomes substantially.
Like other professions in the mental health field and helping professions, counseling typically attracts those who are imbued with a need to help others, to make a difference in others’ lives, the community around them and sometimes even the world. There are many facets to a counselor and to counseling, some of which take on personal attributes such as personality, the values and beliefs held by counselors, and what they perceive their role in the counseling profession to be. Other facets involve ethical considerations in therapy, the importance of the profession, the value and process of change, important counseling practices and the value of necessary self-care a counselor ought to engage in. The role of a counselor is to act as a conduit to change and wellbeing in a client.
Not being able to cope with certain situations in my life, turned to many problems and made it hard to live, happily. After receiving therapy with a certified psychologist for almost nine years, my outlook on life has completely transformed. I have learned how to confront my emotions in a healthy way and how to have a positive attitude towards my day, regardless of the trials that life throws at me. I have been able to develop a character that others have called selfless, caring, and determined to help others. The influence of a psychologist 's help has exponentially heightened my interest in aiding people in dealing with difficult situations and inspired me to pursue a degree in
