Throughout the book of Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer Miranda, the protagonist, is a complex and dynamic character. The protagonist, Miranda, perspective through the hardships through the survival of life. When being introduced to Miranda in the beginning of the book it seemed more like that Miranda was focused on the little things. For example, in the beginning of the book it told the readers that Lisa was pregnant, Miranda’s Dad’s wife, and asked Miranda to be the godmother of the unborn child. In Miranda’s journal she wrote “Whenever I want to get mad at her, or just irritated because she really can be immensely irritating, she goes and does something nice.”(Pfeffer page 3) Miranda is just more focused on being the godmother …show more content…

In the book there is part where people have lined up to get free food, Miranda decided that she would get Dan but Miranda’s mom did not like that because Miranda was lucky that she got food since after Miranda got her bag they started running out of food. Miranda’s mom said “Family is all that matters. Dan has to worry about his family and you have to worry about yours.”(Pfeffer page 100) Even though it did seem like Miranda’s mom was being harsh on Miranda, Miranda’s mom was only trying to get Miranda to understand that family is very important and that they only have each other to get through everything and try to get any opportunity to grab good or any necessary materials that they will need. After Miranda’s mom got sprained her ankle Miranda’s mom told Miranda how grateful and proud she is for Miranda. Miranda’s mom also thinks that Miranda has been brave over the past few months. Miranda’s mom said “We’ll get through. We have each other and we’ll survive.” Then Miranda replied “I know we will.” Having Miranda say that she knows that the family will get through all of this, if they stick together proves that she knows that her family is all she has now and that her family is supposed to be her number one
