The birth of a new baby is an exiting time in the life of a family. Many a times we have heard, my own experience included, a mother sharing that god has given her the gift of a new life and that specific child was sent to her for a reason thus reverting back to the book ‘Exploring the Sacraments’ whereby it states that “as Christians, we believe that life comes from God” (Kelly, 1999, p. 13). Fundamentally, when teaching in a Catholic school a teacher must understand his/her own religious spirituality and values before beginning to teach their students about the initial initiation of being a member of the church and what it means for them. Drawing on my journal work, I was previously overwhelmed with many questions which I did not know the answers to such as “Why am I here? Why have I been born into the Catholic faith?”. These questions were quickly answered having being present at my younger siblings baptismal ceremony.
