Humans have been contemplating their unique individual purpose on this planet since their brains tripled in size over 200,000 years ago. When we consider the inconceivable vastness of the entire universe, our puny planet and all its splendor seem pathetic. The sheer grit of life itself causes anyone from the average Joe to the Queen of England to feel a sense of amazement when pondering the raw complexity of life on planet Earth. Although it may be the single utmost asked question of all time (aside from “Is there Wi-Fi?”), there is yet to be a single answer that satisfies the world. All my life I have worked, and continue to work, as hard as I can to give myself the opportunity to both enrich my mind, and to also have room to make choices. I have challenged myself, and will continue to do so whether it be in a lab, a classroom, or in the workplace. The meaning of my life is not the same as everyone else’s, as we all have different opinions based on what we have learned from our experiences and what we have been exposed to. Ergo, there is not one true meaning of life. I think that a common fear is that people think that finding the meaning of their life will be a long and complex struggle. Although, it needn’t be. The meaning of life is not complex, nor a struggle. I believe that the meaning of life is whatever you want it to be. Countless people who feel as though they have found their life’s meaning, or life’s purpose, have made these self-discoveries through doing what they love. Some people feel at peace whilst helping the sick and needy. Others find their shtick in a lab amongst bubbling vialed catastrophes. There are even those who feel great purpose whilst in front of a class teaching something mundane. The common factor is that by doing what you love, you are in essence giving your life a meaning.
