Books have always been part of my life. I remember myself as an avid reader, until Netflix and the I Pad arrived to my life few years ago. I use to boast that I am a totally free person because I am not tied to any device, as other people are. I can spend the whole day or even weeks without my smart phone. I do not care about social media, You Tube, wellness tracking, music, Siri, Alexa, and all the APPs available in our hands to keep us busy and distracted all the time. But this experiment have demonstrated that I am not as free and untied as I thought I was. But when this better moment were going to arrive?. During last years, my family and friends have continuing buying books for me knowing that it was my passion. When they ask me about the book I always excuse myself in the lack of time. But I am just lying, lying them and lying myself. Yes I have time, not to much, but enough to open a book and read for at least thirty minutes. It is not too much. But I am trapped in an endless list of TV entertainment that is tracking me away from the wonderful world of literature, from the world of the imagination. My Literacy Narrative I was never truly an avid reader when I was younger. I was the oldest of five siblings and left in charge of taking care of my younger brothers and sister. I was more prone to spending time outside than reading a book. Of course, I did find myself enjoying a good mystery novel, but playing ball would always trump even a good book.
In today’s society, there is an immense amount of young adults and teenagers who don’t enjoy reading as much as teens from the eighties. This may be because of the increase in technology starting from the beginning of the twenty-first century, or just because people choose not to read. One of the most evident reasons to why teenagers in this century have to force themselves to read is because of all the other distractions and things they would rather be doing than sit in complete silence, reading a book. This isn’t a cause for celebration, or a statement implying that reading is only for educational purposes and not the enjoyment, because it isn’t.
Over the course of the semester, my main goal was to become a more precise writer and develop my identity as a writer. According too, the Portfolio Letter assignment sheet, becoming a better writer consists of precise planning, draft and revising. It also includes understanding a variety of academic genres by examining the basic characteristics that defines each type. In order too efficiently meet my goal of becoming a better writer, it was very important to have my work evaluated by others and myself as well. The use of rhetorical knowledge, critical thinking, reading and writing all are the important aspects in this course.
Books I think are powerful. Books contain so much more than just the story it 's a mindset, and by reading different books, I feel we can be alike in some ways but completely different from others. We will always have likes and dislikes, but once we start to read a book I think we can go in with an open mind set and when we finish, or if we don 't we have are own opinion. My educational journey has been an experience I will remember. I have attended school in three different countries, Antigua, St. Thomas, and New York. A diverse educational experience has allowed me to interact with many different cultures and confront many of the different topics we discussed in class. At that time however, I was not fully aware of the implications of certain situation but after many readings I can now fully understand many of the experiences I encountered in my journey. All the information I have learned in this class however will bring all my experience together where I can make much more sense of it than I could when I was younger.
Being a teacher is a journey that has much to do with learning about yourself and being aware that what happens in your classroom reflects only on how are you with yourself. Teachers are not conscious that they project into students, and that affects how things go in the classroom. I believe the first characteristic of a good teacher is that he/ she is always willing to analyze his/her teaching performance. Second the teacher is humble enough to receive input about the development and application of techniques, learning from it and improving.
