The film, Life is Beautiful, is about a Jewish man named Guido, who is living during the time of the Holocaust. The movie shows Guido 's life with his son, Giosúe, and wife, Dora. The movie has a comical view on the events happening during World War II. Which does not portray what truly happened during those events. In order to teach others what actually happened to millions of people during the Holocaust you need a movie that isn 't trying to protect innocence. There needs to be violence and terror, because that is truly what happened during the Holocaust. Therefore this would not be an ideal movie to show to a class while trying to learn about the Holocaust. For example; Life is Beautiful, does not show the violence which occurred within this time, it mocks the Nazi 's actions, and makes Giosúe appear oblivious to what is happening around him. When I state, the movie did not show the violence which occurred within this time, I mean during the film you never once see someone be …show more content…
By the time the movie, Life is Beautiful, ended I noticed myself looking around to see how others reacted to the ending. I believe we were all a little shocked with the movie. It was a weak portrayal of the Holocaust compared to other movies we have viewed. The end is almost a happy ending, when Giosúe is riding a tank with an American solider in the middle of lines of victims. Which does not seem right to me, I believe the ending of Holocaust movie should be powerful. Have people really stop and think about what happened during these times. That is why I believe the movie was cut short. It was missing the emotion and pain that people felt during this time, that moment of realization of the horrors that were happening around the German people. Holocaust movie need to be graphic, it is the only way to truly portray what happened. That is why I do not believe that the movie, Life is Beautiful, is not an ideal movie to show to a class trying to learn
In history there was many events that were horrifying. The Holocaust was one of those frightful events. During the World War II, the nazis were the ones in charge of the Holocaust. Six million Jews, homosexuals, and gypsies were killed and the survivors had to live their life with fear. These writers use several techniques in order to convey the horrors of the Holocaust.
I watch documentaries about the holocaust a lot which kind of sounds depressing but i think they're pretty entertaining. I wish we would take more time to learn about it in school. I understand that it is part of WWII but I wish they had a chapter just for that so some people would understand what they went through. If I had the opportunity to go to Auschwitz I would take it in a heartbeat.
Take Schindler’s List, The Pianist, even as recent as The Zookeeper’s Wife along with many other feature films for example, they all depicted those who survived the Holocaust or helped save others from death. Though Chaim Rumkowski did all he could to keep those living in the Lodz Ghetto alive, in the end, nearly everyone from Lodz was sent to their deaths. The story of how Holocaust victims survived is what people want to see in the movies typically. Though feature films do add some details that are not true into the feature films, they still depict the true ending. In a feature film, they could not make an ending where the Lodz Ghetto ended up getting liberated by the Russians, like it could have been since the Russians were seventy-five miles away when they liberated Warsaw (Cohen & Kuritzen,
This is reinforced when the reader sees the actions that occur during the time of Eliezer’s thoughts. On the other hand, ‘Life is Beautiful’ takes on a much more loving and carefree feeling throughout. The movie displays a beautiful example of human kindness in the worst of situations, much to the contrary of ‘Night’. Guido and his son spent a lot of time in the concentration camps. Regardless of Guido's own starvation, he provides more food for his son whenever he is hungry.
It was captivating, confronting, and horrifying. I have a great deal of respect for Lale for reliving his nightmare once more to ensure “that it (the Holocaust) wouldn't happen again.” He was willing to re-experience the loss of his family and friends and all the deaths he had witnessed. Just so others wouldn't have to endure the things he had. His selflessness, good heart, and strong will to live saved countless lives alongside his own.
There are many stories from of the Holocaust throughout history, and the world. Every story is unique to the Jew’s situation. Most stories end in them escaping and being able to live, right? Well that might be true, but there are stories of friends, family members, and seeing other innocent people die. Two examples of stories told about the Holocaust would be, Night by Elie Wiesel, and Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni.
Another example from before this is when they are on the train and Mrs. Schachter won’t be quiet, they turn on one of their own and beat her. The tone is overall is gloomy and hopeless. Life is Beautiful takes a different approach. It shows kindness and comedy where most would find none.
Through studying this tragic event, the dangers of racism and prejudice will be clear. At ages most students learn about the holocaust, they struggle with loyalty, conformity, peer pressure, and belonging. The Holocaust may help teach youth to be aware of how to navigate these pressures of society and be able to make the correct decisions however difficult that may be (Why teach The Holocaust?). Stories of specific people from The Holocaust can engage students into a great lesson that they can take into their daily lives (Why teach about The
In the story “Terrible Things” and “The video Child of the Holocaust” has many facts, points of views from both of the author’s perspective, their word choice, and what facts they use to describe the Holocaust. In the story “Terrible
The Holocaust was a devastating event that had outreaching effects on many groups of people and many countries. Although most of this devastation happened to the Jewish Race. There are many books, movies, memoirs, and academic journals regarding the Holocaust, portraying how it affected different people and their stories. One memoir that will be discussed is Night written by Elie Wiesel about his life during the Holocaust. Also a movie by the name of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas will be discussed.
Without the fear of being afraid of the camp at first arrival or the fear of the Jew not eating because they know they will be killed, there wouldn’t be much hope. This proves the point on why fear overpowers people and make them not do what they would normally due since there life is at risk. This truly shows the bad of the holocaust. Due to all the fear no one could stand up to
They should be taught the Holocaust because people have a tendency to only care about themselves and usually turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to problems that don’t affect them. The Holocaust will teach them that because of the many millions of bystanders and bigots, the mass murders of 6 million of the 9.5 million Jews in Europe occurred. Also the students should be taught the Holocaust in the 8th grade so they can develop an understanding of it that gets magnified in high school. The mass murders that occurred in Germany were egregious and should never happen again, and teaching the kids will be a big step in doing
That's just another reason we need to teach kids about the holocaust, but don't stop there. We need to teach them about all the genocide events that took place. They need to learn about the flaws of their world, so they can fix them. In conclusion, the holocaust should be taught in schools because, it teaches students about the thin line between good and evil, it was a major event of history in the 20th century, they should know the past early so they can prepare for the future, and it helps them deal with the world they live in
The Learning of The Holocaust The book Night by, Wiesel represented the holocaust. The book was a great way of expressing facts but it was hard for me to really see it. I think that the movie, The Boy In The Striped Pajamas explained the holocaust much more efficiently, and had a better understanding of emotion and gave the watcher a better visual for better comprehension.
The horrendous acts committed during World War II still haunt people today. A lot of people did not realize the extent of the brutality that took place in concentration camps across the country until this film was released. The entire film is filled with 195 minutes of pure gut ranching brutal acts committed by Nazi armed men. The entire film is filled with true acts of violence showing the entire process of when a Jewish member of the community
