The best way to create a functioning country is to have it band together and act as one in order to function at its optimum level, while many possibilities to convert this thought into reality have been attempted, sports has been used as not only a nation building tool but as a tool for peace building world wide
According to Alex Krafchek (2012) sport is an activity that has multiple purposes and benefits to people’s lives. He stated that sport offers many social benefits, as almost all sports are not outlier’s unknown to other countries, but rather are an activity that does not understand borders, race or language. The game has the same rules,

Pieter Labuschagne, 2008, African Journals Online, http://www.ajol.info/index.php/ai/article/view/51207, 8 October 2015
Pieter Labuschagne (2008) is a reliable author as he is a professor at unisa, in political sciences; his writing is valid as it talks about times where South Africa has banded together because of sport, as well as problems that are arising in sport unification to political intervention. The limitation it doesn’t show resources for where he got his research, so it is unknown how much of the article is his opinion.
This article was useful as it gave another argument to using sport as a nation builder, unseen in the other articles.
3. Aamir Bilal, unkown, the news on Sunday, http://jang.com.pk/thenews/feb2012-weekly/nos-05-02-2012/spo.htm#2, 8 october 2015
Aamir Bilal is a reliable author purely because he is writing for a new publication. His writing is valid as it speaks about how in his country is not being used properly, and why it should be used, as well as giving examples of where it is being used. The limitation is that it is not from any professor, or research article but rather from a news journal. This article was useful as gave me information about how sport is being both used and misused, how sport has helped people and is helping people , as well as how it is sought
The book highlights the good and the bad of the sport. For someone who may not be too interested in it, or just has to read it for a history class, he made it entertaining. Giving not only a history lesson on the sport but just as much on the working class of America and the emerging commercialized leisure’s and shifting social classes in the nineteenth century. Gorn is able to interweave social and political issues of the times all told with characters as colorful and wild as the early days of this country. Men crave the order of violence with rules and attach elevated importance to such contests in part because so much of life is entirely unjust and oppressive.
In “Do Sports Build Character or Damage it?” Mark Edmundson explains the pros and cons of children who grow up playing football. Firstly, he believes the perseverance it takes to show up for hard practices is useful later in life. Especially when they get frustrated with something and don’t notice the little bits of progress they are making.

The value of sports- the value of spectator sports- outstrips all that. Sports is a field of love. We love sports.” This use of pathos helps the author define why the glory of sports outshines possible negatives, as well as inspiring readers to appreciate sports more deeply. The author’s use of ethos is very scarce, however it is used when
Summary “Children Need to Play, Not Compete,” by Jessica Statsky is a thoughtful insight on the competitive sports for children. She is of the view that the competitive sports can ruin the enjoyment that games are supposed to provide. These methods of playing the games like adults can prove to be lethal for physical and psychological health. The author quotes from an authentic source that “Kids under the age of fourteen are not by nature physical.” (Tutko)

This paper describes and analyzes a life review interview with an older adult. The purpose of this paper is to discuss, record and reflect on an older adult’s life in order to evaluate them on the last stage of Erik Erickson’s theory of psychosocial development; integrity versus despair. This paper will also focus on the elements of a life review as well as the reflections of the interview on the part of the author. JC is a seventy-seven year old white male who lives by himself in New York City. He was born in London, England, and was an only child.
To most kids and students, competitive sports are a gateway to blow off some steam or to have fun. To parents, the sports that their children play and the lessons that they teach are an important part of their development and life. Despite what many ‘experts’ would like you to believe, both of these statements are completely true. I believe that kids should be allowed to play competitive sports due to the health benefits, the lessons that they can teach, and as a result of the advanced equipment and rules that are focused on making sports safe, as well as the fact that sports can keep kids out of trouble. One extremely important reason that forces me to take the position that kids should be allowed to compete in competitive sports is the health benefits that children who play sports recieve.
Summary In “Children Need to Play, Not Compete,” Jessica Statsky tries to demonstrate the negative effect of organized sports on the physical and psychological health of growing child. She claims that the games are not festive but they end up in the wrong development of a child’s brain. The coaches and parents have high hopes for their children that result in the pressure building. This changes the purpose of sports from teaching tolerance, teamwork and sportsmanship to merely winning by all means.
Is Golf a Sport? Many people would consider golf to be a game rather than a sport. Golfers do not have to be great athletes or in terrific physical condition. Golf is accessible to most people and it does not require a team (most times), so it seems to be a game. Golf does require skill, practice, and athleticism, the same as other sports.
Life course perspective is used in social science to help understand human development. It takes into account how a person grows and changes through life experiences. It looks at historical events as well as cultural changes that affect a person’ evolution over their life (The life course perspective, 2003-2018). Life course perspective states that there is complex interaction of social and environmental factors mixed with biological, behavioral, and physiological issues that define the course of a person’s life. Each stage in life exerts influences on the next stage, social, economic, and physical environments and they also have influences through a person’s life course.
Social Theories provides us with insights and explanations as to why people act the way they do. Sports is a human activity that involves physical skill and hard work. Sports is also governed by a set of rules and it is taken competitively. It is said that sports is taken seriously and is very important for athletes and even for the fans, some even say it is like a religion for them. Though not everyone in the society follow any sport, because they see that it has no relation to their lives.
Competitive sports provide a community which kids can work with and beat other teams with. “Playing a sport helps children develop social skills which would benefit them even when they grow older. Playing sports teaches them about teamwork and cooperating with others. They learn to interact with people from different ages” (Mahaseth). When these kids grow up, they can use these skills to be able to cooperate and talk with their colleagues.
