In the story “The Lightning Thief”, Rick Riordan uses imagery to paint clear pictures of the characters and places. He describes his characters to the point where you can picture what they look like, sound like, and even act like. Riordan uses dialogue to show the interaction in between the characters. His exemplary usage of dialogue puts a fun new perspective on the characters communication. Lastly but most importantly he uses an exciting tone to keep the reader interested. He seems very invested in his writing which makes the reader enjoy the book.Those literary devices help make the story fun to read and interesting.

Imagery “ The last thing I remember is collapsing on a wooden porch, looking up at a ceiling fan circling above me, moths flying around the yellow, light, and the stern faces of a familiar looking bearded man and a pretty girl (56)” Even if the reader has no idea what is going on, based on the clear imagery given on they can guess what is happening and where. “My legs tendsed. I couldn't jump sideways, so I leaped straight up kicking off from the creature's head using it as a springboard (54).” Riordan describes this scene so vividly that the reader can picture the fight taking place. “Um… Uncle, You keep saying ‘after what you've done’ what exactly have I done (311).” Rick Riordan is marvelous at making characters speak in ways that people can understand, but he is even better at making them sound realistic and relatable. “ ‘I want to tell him of your tal with the river spirit’. ‘We can't use phones right?’ ‘I wasn't talking about phones’ (219).” Even when discussing abstract concepts, Rick Riordan finds a way to relate it to the reader. He always seems to have a good balance of clarity and relatability. Both qualities are good and necessary to have when it comes to writing
