The fluids that you produce represent your current emotions, and the volumetric rate at which you excrete these fluids directly represents the intensity or type of emotion. Weeping usually demonstrates sadness, but on some occasions tears show a degree of happiness. Bleeding typically shows a sign of injury, although a menstrual blood flow is a sign of life. Perspiration is the natural coolant of hard workers across any nation, and a byproduct of consummation. One of the greatest surprises of Like Water for Chocolate is when; “Tita was literally washed into this world on a great tide of tears that spilled over the edge of the table and flooded across the kitchen floor (Esquivel 6)”. The absurdity that would follow such an event brings a tear …show more content…
For example the first sight of blood comes at the expense of forbidden love, “Pedro though it would nice to bring her [Tita] a bouquet of roses to celebrate her first year as ranch cook. But Rosura – who was expecting her first child – did not agree, and when she saw him walk in carrying a boquet for Tita, instead of her, she burst into tears and ran from the room (48)”. When Tita is tasked with the prompt removal of the roses Pedro gifted to her she embraces the roses tightly, “Tita clasped the roses to her chest so tightly that when she got to the kitchen, the roses, which had been mostly pink, had turned quite red from the blood that was flowing from Tita’s hands and breasts (48)”. Although Mama Elena would rather Tita just throw the bouquet away, Tita decides to incorporate the rose petals into a meal that Nacha had told her about, Quail in rose petal sauce. In addition Tita prepared the meal just as she would any other, but no one would be prepared for the alchemical reaction that Tita’s blood and the rose petal sauce would have together, “Rosura, saying she was feeling sick and getting nauseous, barely took three bites. But something strange was happening with Gertrudis. On her the food seemed to act as an aphrodisiac, she began to feel an intense heat pulsing through her limbs (50)”. The pain that Tita endured to carefully orchestrate a dish of …show more content…
For example when Gertrudis consumes the quail in rose petal sauce meal that Tita prepared from the roses given to her by Pedro, “She began to sweat, imagining herself on horseback with her arms clasped around one of Pancho Villa’s men: the one she had seen in the village plaza the week before, smelling of sweat and mud of dawns that brought uncertainty and danger, smelling of life and death (51)”. Notice how sweat is used to define not only how Gertrudis’ body reacts from the aphrodisiac meal, but also the way the fantasized soldier smells, a memorable scent that was carried in her thoughts. In addition to Gertrudis’ reaction at the table, “Gertrudis was really stricken; her whole body was dripping with sweat. Her sweat was pink, and smelled like roses, a lovely strong smell (52)”. The scent of sweat is rather sickly-sweet, for some it holds a memory of a pleasant presence, and for others it reminds them of a greasy fast food restaurant that claims subpar
In “Like Water for Chocolate” by Laura Esquivel, tells a story of a girl who lives in a household where filial piety is expected from her mother. What is filial piety? Good question. It is an institution where the child must respect, obey and care the parents, until death. Historically, this traditional came from a Confusion philosophy in China, which the child must take care of their parents until death, and utter most, respect them.
Some of the worst forms of malice come from love. Abigail Williams from The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a great example of this. Abigail is a young girl who was caught practicing witchcraft in order to make John only love her. In the puritan times this would mean death. So, to combat this she calls multiple townspeople witches, saying she had seen them with the devil.

It is with these four individuals that Sal's pizzeria had become so well known in New York. Sal is a person who likes to help everyone and is a well-rounded individual.
This relates to the theme of food being able to produce emotions in an individual. The food made Tita return to reality of her life. This weeping can symbolize Tita’s rebirth because when she was born she had wept as much as she was weeping at that moment. Tita is returning to reality and can feel

In the play A Midsummer’s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, many of the characters relentlessly pursue their goals in the face of illogical decisions, and, while fictional items such as the “love-in-idleness” flower are used to explain the character’s sudden love for each other, the play does illustrate how love and ambition can lead to unforeseen consequences. For example, when Puck accidently anointed Lysander’s eyes with the “love-in-idleness” juice, he started a chain of events leading to Lysander and Demetrius fighting over Helena while Hermia is treated as though she is worthless. Moreover, at one point, Lysander and Demetrius even threatened to duel each other when Lysander awoke after being anointed with the flower 's juice and said, "Where is Demetrius? O, how fit a word is that vile name to perish on my sword" (61). This shows how the character’s love for certain other characters, and their ambition to pursue said love, can lead to the destruction of previous relationships and lead them to make dangerous decisions.
In Kirsten Greenidge’s Milk Like Sugar, the protagonist, Annie Desmond, struggles between falling into the toxic cycle of teenage pregnancy that surrounds her and her desire to seek out a better, more fulfilling life. In the course of the play, Annie takes many actions that help drive the plot. A major Action What occurs when Annie confronts her mother. Annie claims that her mother does not take the time to hear Annie out: “You say you got words in you but you don’t even listen. What kind of mother don’t want to eat with her own kids?”
To reflect this flaw in sight and consumption Eve then had to remove her clothes as a sign of humility, revealing her body as sin. For this reason nearly all of the female monsters within the Middle Ages reflect some deformity of women’s turpitudinem. The Sheela-na-gig (Figure 1), as example, represents the likeness of a female figure but only demands attention to four fragments of the body; the vagina, breasts, mouth and eyes. Importantly these are areas of the body that are also associated with a transgression between life and death in the abject; the vagina menstruates, the breasts lactate, the mouth speaks, swallows and spits, and the eyes reflect something non gendered, tears. The structures of the real therefore begin to ‘meld into one another in a cascade towards the absurd’.
She mimics Tita’s actions and takes part in the game of scattering water drops on the stove (Esquivel 8). This shows that Gertrudis is more likely to get along with Tita than Rosaura is, and essentially eliminates her as a true foil to Tita as the two do not fully contrast. This event also foreshadows how Tita’s and Rosaura’s clashing
Another example, of violence turning into love is when the prince, prince of Verona, tells the Montagues and Capulets that the heavens decided to punish them, due to the death of Romeo and Juliet. The prince states, “ That heavens finds means to kill your joy with love” (V.iii.304). This shows that even the prince believes that the loss of both Romeo and Juliet will bring love into the feuding families hearts. This proves that violence can put an
‘A Natural History of The Senses’ by Diane Ackerman allows the readers truly appreciate the sense smell. Ackerman goes throughout history, scientific evidence and different colorations on varying aspects of smell. She therefore allows the readers believe in smell as though it was a touchable sensation. She also allows the readers to creatively visualize memories, ideas and so forth. Ackerman allows the readers to think more in depth with how smell can be used in the daily lifestyle.
In both passages, the smells are used to orient the characters in a direction; the repairman, Stuart Little, and Montag each move follow the appealing smells of nature, which ultimately provides them with both physical and mental direction.
“Two Kinds,” by Amy Tan, essentially revolves around the struggle of Jing Mei and her constant conflict with her mother. Throughout her life, she is forced into living a life that is not hers, but rather her mom’s vision of a perfect child; because her mother lost everything, which included her parents and kids, so her only hope was through Jing Mei. Jing Mei’s mom watches TV shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show, which gives her inspiration that her daughter should be like the people and actors. First her mom saw how on the television a three-year-old boy can name all the capitals of the states and foreign countries and would even pronounce it correctly. Her mom would quiz Jing Mei on capitals of certain places, only to discover that
A memorable and heavenly man aroma filled the air. The smell of cherry, wintergreen, apple, and butternut flavoured pipe and tobacco smoke mixed with the scent of hair tonics, pomades, oils, and neck powders. These aromas became ingrained in the wood and every cranny of the shop. The moment a man stepped inside, he was enveloped in the warm and welcoming familiarity. He was immediately able to relax, and as soon as the hot lather hit his face, his cares would simply melt away.”
