Effects of Linalool There are more than 200 species of plants that produce Linalool. All these plants are mainly from the Lamiaceae and Rutaceae family. Although they have many commercial applications, the main application is to do with pleasant scent. It is also known by several other names like linalyl oxide etc. It is quite common to make use of odors of essential oils for the treatment of depression and anxiety and even several types of cognitive disorders. It reduces the aggressive behavior and lessens the stress response too, but at the same time improves sleep. The Lavender used here has Linalool, which was found in mice in high concentration after inhaling this product (as per studies conducted). It was also found that it affected the central nervous system. There is not a clear understanding of the pharmacological mechanism of Linalool. It is quite common to make use of odors of essential oils for the treatment of depression and anxiety and even several types of cognitive disorders. A recent study conducted on humans suggests that there is a profound effect of Linalool on the blood flow to the superior temporal gyrus, to the insula and anterior cortex. Signs of significant reduction in cerebral blood flow on inhaling Linalool were visible after exposure to Linalool in adult males with no prior history of any issues of cerebral blood flow.
