Bilingual Teacher Preparation from an ELL’s Perspective Claudia Gonzalez University of Texas at El Paso Abstract This paper explores bilingual teacher preparation; one of the most important and principal lack of bilingual education. Teachers play an important role in children’s education and it is very important to give to bilingual students adequate preparation according to their academic level so they have the same opportunities as other students to be successful in the world.
Curzan argues that it is discouraging and difficult to have a student ask questions about grammatical rules and not being able to give an appropriate answer due to different grammatical rules. Curzan summarizes her article by saying that grammar is a very crucial issue to every tutor. When learners have a lot of grammatical errors, it is sad since this shows that they never learned correct grammar,
Academic Challenge Davideen “Dee” Treybig Name That Grammar Skill! A Challenge to Enforce Grammar Skills Targeted Outcomes: Creativity and Collaboration Indicators: Seeking the original and integrating seemingly unrelated ideas; contribute to and invest in a group vision Essential Question: How is grammar important to my success in communicating with other people? June Casagrande writes Grammar Snobs Are Great Big Meanies: A Guide To Language for Fun and Spite to empower the average English speaker to reclaim their language. Casagrande is candid about the reality of using grammar in the English world; her most reassuring point being that a native speaker already knows how to speak and write but, “[They] just don’t know [they] know” (7). Each chapter of her book uses humor to teach explicitly the grammar rules the “Grammar Snobs” exploit to embarrass those who do not speak perfectly. A “grammar snob” is a person who finds pleasure in insulting those who do not understand the rules of English even though they speak it.
As a high school English teacher, there is almost no single way that I can receive more groans of sorrow than introduce a lesson on grammar. Even worse than how much the students resist, is the unrelenting fact that they retain almost nothing from a traditional style grammar assignment of underlining clauses and phrases, circling parts of speech, or correcting error riddled sentences. Long ago I had abandoned these methods in favor of more fun and vastly more effective methods like Harry Noden’s Brushstrokes method as explained in his paradigm shifting book, Image Grammar, or using writer’s craft instruction, as described in Mechanically Inclined, by Jeff Anderson. After winning a set of highly prized Grammar Punk dice at a conference, I
Grammar is the formation of any sentence, quote or paper. When I write I will re-read each section of my paper to make sure that it flows smoothly and that I have not missed a coma. Coma’s do me in each time. I will add them when they are not necessary and will not add them when I actually need one. Writing is a learning process.

Title : The Switch of Speech Style Used by Erin Gruwell in Freedom Writers Movie 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the Study Language is more than just a tool for communication that helps the speaker to deliver the information to the listener, but rather as an important key feature on leading people (Baxter, 2010). In the education context, teachers are considered as leaders who “place their students’ learning as their primary goal and work within their own classrooms to improve student achievement” (Merideth, 2007, p. 3). As a leader in the language classroom, the teacher’s language product holds a very important role in the achievement of the students (Diaz, Lynne T. and Rico, 2004, p. 293). Language product used by the teacher is influenced
The questionable and ambiguous nature surrounding the notion that children play an active role in acquiring language has been debated by many theorists of different perspectives. These three perspectives include the learning view, the nativist view and the interactionist view. In this essay I will discuss each perspective with reference to psychological theories and research that relates to each view. The learning perspective of language acquisition suggests that children acquire language through imitation and reinforcement (Skinner, 1957). The ideology behind this view claims that children develop language by repeating utterances that have been praised by their parent, therefore gaining a larger vocabulary and understanding of phrases over

We had many class discussions that brought on a few arguments, however I was so interested to hear everyone’s ideas on grammar. My Pedagogical Grammar class helped me to see my views on grammar and how I wanted to teach my students. While the traditional method of teaching grammar is important,
