CHAPTER NO#2 LITERATURE REVIEW
English is important being an international language. This era is a globalization period and it is essential for every person to know this global language and to stay interacted with the whole world. In our society English language is considered as a high standard language. It is also assumed by our Pakistani society that person who spoke English must belong to high status. Status of a person can also be judged by the language spoken by him. In Pakistan, English is learned by people in order to communicate or they learn English to get handsome salary job, to run business to get higher education but unfortunately many learners face different problems in learning English due to undeveloped listening skill as listening is the main and key component to learn any language. Listening is the first step in acquisition of any language. These researchers explore different factors related to listening. This research has investigated obstacle and elaborated the strategies that will overcome these problems in listening English. The strategies will be a solution for English learners to develop there listening skill and improve people’s listening in learning English as a second language.

Listening comprehension can only be done with perfect listening. In listening comprehension, whatever a person hears should be understood accurately. In listening comprehension different listening barriers could be observed, listening barriers are obstacles in listening. To overcome these barriers listening strategies are given in order to improve listing skills. Lastly, listening activities are also used to avoid these hindrance, listening activities are those activities which are performed by teachers or facilitators and students in the classroom to minimize listening hindrances and to develop perfect listening
Listening attentively and actually hearing what is being said and responding appropriately is key when building relationships as it shows that you are interested in what the child or young person is saying. Answering them appropriately is important and not judging them allows the child or young person to feel that they are being valued and that they are secure in what they’re saying to the adult. Positive body language is an essential principle in building relationships as it shows that you are interested and listening. The child or young person should always feel that what they are talking to you about will remain confidential. When communicating with children and young people, it is essential to demonstrate a number of skills effectively and efficiently. Although it is likely that every practitioner will do this every day without a thought, it is worth reflecting on different ways in which you do this – an effective communication is a vital role of the practitioner. Children will learn to communicate through the responses from others. Thus, the practitioner needs a range of interpersonal skills that will be able to facilitate effective communication with the children.

Reflection on the 5-Days Journey to Become a Better Listener Throughout the 5-days practice of active listening and basic attending skills in daily conversations, it was easiest for me to practice empathy. I found it easy to perceive the situation through others’ eyes and perspectives in order to capture the accurate meaning when I was nonjudgemental and listened attentively to others.
