My Son the Fanatic by Hanif Kureishi My main focus in this essay will be on Hanif Kureishi’s “My Son the Fanatic”, I’ll be making a short analysis of the short story’s structure as well as narrative technique and characterizations of the people we meet throughout the story, furthermore will I touch upon the themes and message. Last but not least I’ll make a discussion regarding the true villain in this story. Hanif Kureishi is a British playwright, screenwriter, filmmaker and a novelist. He is of pakistani and english descent, as his father is pakistani (Rafiushan Kureishi) and his mother english (Audrey Buss). Kureishi was born in Bromley, South London on the 5th December 1954 and is currently living in West London. He is married to Monique Proudlove and has two twins, which he got from his previous relationship with Tracey Scoffield, and a younger son. He has attended Bromley Technical High School and studied for A-levels at Bromley College of Technology. He later attended Lancaster University and spent a year studying philosophy, however he ended up dropping out. He attended at last King’s College London and took a degree in philosophy. Kureishi started of being a pornography writer, but later on decided to write more serious works, such as literature and plays to theatres and screenplays. “My Son the Fanatic” is a short story written by Hanif Kureishi, it has been published in a short story collection with the name of “Love in a Blue Time”.
