Insect Diversity Biodiversity is described as the totality of the various life forms all over the world. It also comprises diversity and great quantity of species of their genetic variations, the communities, ecosystems, and regions in which they act on (Negussie, 2009). The information about insect diversity in tropics is not that well known because people are not oriented and aware in maintaining and generating its diversity. For instance, ecologists working in the tropics, find it difficult in determining and studying the morpho-species of butterflies. The study needs special experience in the field of insect systematics. Compared to other experts who conduct various studies in other fields of science, entomologists

The park is under the conservation of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR, 2013). Climate in the area is driven by a seasonal alteration between a wet season, from June to November and dry season, from December to May. The dry season may be sub-divided further into (a) a dry season, from December to February; and (b) a hot dry season, from March to May (PAGASA, 2013). The selection of sites will be based on the different land covers in Sohoton Natural Bridge National Park. These include the open forest, the long bushy grassland, and cultivated-perennial crop. Open forest or the woodland is a mixture of trees, which are around 10-30 m tall, shrubs, flowering herbs and grasses. However, trees are the dominant plants that can be seen in this kind of habitat. The other form of land cover that is located in Sohoton Natural Bridge National Park is the long bushy grassland, which is dominated by tall grasses and forbs rather than shrubs and trees. The Philippines is one of the countries that have diverse insect species. Current studies show that the country has an approximate of 21, 000 insect species, 6, 185 genera and 499 families. In spite of having a vast amount of insect species, less group of researchers tend to conduct their studies in some parts of the
Meosha Robinson ISBL 10/22/2015 Monarch Butterfly Decline The monarch butterfly, scientifically referred to as danaus plexippus, is an extremely popular insect among North America. This insect is highly popular, not because it is beneficial to human existence but because it has the most distinctive migration pattern on top of its physical attributes that catch the human eye. The monarch butterfly has been recorded to travel over 2000 miles in order to get to their summer breeding ground (Oberhauser, 2004).
The pill bugs were cuddling with each other as a way to preserve the heat and therefore, wouldn’t waist a lot of energy and eventually die. For the 24 C the bugs where moving at a full speed. As it is said that the pill bugs are well adapted to moist temperatures because they need it as a way to breathe and not die from dehydration. Pill bugs tend to come out during the day because of the moist. The results are compatible with the results of the group experiments.
Both north and south sides of the mountain were sampled at low and high points of elevation for the amount of plant species present. Figure 1: Representation of belt transect *not scaled
Although they may be small in size, they have had a significant impact on human activities in terms of agricultural production and in the same way it can be observed that human activities have impacted this species in terms of optimal conditions for reproduction and growth. Globally, invasive insects cost an estimated $2. 1 billion in forest damage and $13 billion in loss of crop depending on how detrimental the species is but nonetheless, a species such as the love bug demonstrates that even nuisances can provides benefits amide the costly
Due to this the research hypothesis was supported. After further calculations if a person wanted to collect 64 pill bugs all he/she needs to do is spray this mixture of sugar around his house and everywhere in his backyard. Two chi-square tests were performed on the data to determine if the
This was a very good example of how habitats change from a low elevation to a high elevation, even if the elevation is only a few feet in difference. It was neat to see the very abrupt habitat changes during the walk. I know typically determining the change from one habitat to another can be difficult sue to the overlap in canopy and understory species but in this case they seemed very well defined and easy to point out. This area and the habitats contained within were dramatically different than the Disney Wildlife Preserve even though many of the same species existed on both sites. Some interesting observations during the trip forced me to search for the answers such as the bubbles on the juvenile sand pine trees.
Discussion Questions 1. Several factors that contributed to the extinction of trees on the island included the constant chopping of trees to build canoes, to transport statues, to build to plant gardens, and to burn them for fires. The large population of rats that chewed palm nuts, also contributed to the extinction of trees. 2. If I would have arrived on the island before the tree populations were extinct, I would have advised the Easter Islanders to slow down the production of canoes, statues, houses, and gardens.
Diversity or being diverse is defined as the state or quality of being different (Collins). Diversity or being “different” is an accepted as a human right today—the ability to speak confidently of a differing opinion, for example. The state of being “different” can be obtained at an time through the progress of life—at any stage, that is, one can alter and/or learn immensely impacting his/her perceptive on a certain subjects. John Wyndham’s the Chrysalids introduces a community where being “different” is condemned, and follows a strict and limiting on living. Wyndham uses this novel to present the key idea that people deserve and should be his/her own individuals through conflict between David and society, development of characters—David Strorm, Aunt Harriet,
They play an important role as a ecosystem primary producer. Unfortunately the species is considered Vulnerable on the Red List of Threatened species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature due to human interaction. It is difficult to detect them in the wild, so proper observation needs to be conducted in captivity. The purpose of the paper is to better understand and describe the behavior and social standing
The ecosystem that I found to be the most interesting is the Daintree Rainforest. This rainforest is estimated to be 180 million years old and has a very fascinating and distinctive land. The Daintree Rainforest is a tropical rainforest that is located on the north east coast of Queensland, Australia; taking up a total of 0.1 percent of Australia’s land mass. The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest existing tropical rainforest in the world and the biggest rainforest located in Australia, it is a total of over 1,200 square kilometers in size. This forest got its famous name from a man named Richard Daintree, a 19th century Australian geologist and photographer.

T. Coraghessen Boyle’s tone in his narrative “Top of the Food Chain”, conveys a casual conversation with a senator about the use of DDT in Borneo. This casual conversation also exemplifies his casual and reckless approach to the solution of insects plaguing the people of Borneo. Boyle’s passion blindfolded reasonable and reliable alternatives to help the insect problem. The ramification of dealing with the pesky insects causing disease and burden to this developing country were ill-researched and exemplifies Boyle’s casual approach and tone. Boyle’s passion to help a “2 year old so black with flies and mosquitos it looks like he’s wearing long johns”, blinded all reason to do good research and understand the risks upstream when mosquitos and
INTRODUCTION Millipedes and centipedes are found under the class myriapoda. During the ancients they were known as harmful to humans on account of their poison bite. This class is the most widely distributed and are found in most parts of the world. Some writers have supposed that the world which is translated in the bible is really scolopendra which is a genus for centipedes and his made the centipedes to be the earliest mentioned of the myriapods. Centipedes were noticed in the in the classical times.
Introduction: Biodiversity is important for all living organism including plants and animals. Without biodiversity, there would be no balance between organism and their environment. Biodiversity helps to maintain the balance of nature to sustain all life on earth; one species will not overpower another because of the effect of biodiversity. Not only does biodiversity maintain the balance of nature it is also used to indicate health in the aquatic community. Dissolved-oxygen is measured in the aquatic environment to test the health of the water.
