2. Literature Review: The early research on suicide rate was mostly focused on sociological and anthropological perspective. Economists began to notice this issue and started their research and analysis by the economic approach since Hamermesh and Soss’s (1974) article An Economic Theory of Suicide. They successfully examined the link between the economic variable and individual’s utility as well as suicide rates by regression analysis of time series and cross section, and also provided a theoretical framework for the future studies. Suicide, as behaviour, leads to the death intentionally. It is hard to tell whether the suicide rate increases or decreases with the development of the economy. As a result, the better health people have, the lower the suicide rate will be. However there exist a relationship between physical condition and the economic development. According to Strauss, there is a relationship between income and demand for health. With the development of the economy, the job positions which needed the manual and strength of people will be reduced, that is to say, the average health in labour market declines with less exercise of people, especially the positions which require high education and skill acquisition (Strauss, & Thomas, 1998). So the health level declines with the previous theory. However, at the same time, the hospital conditions tend to be better and the techniques of the medical treatment are more advanced, which obviously improves the average life scale and health. Here we take a dummy variable of nonreligion, which shows to have more than 7.8% population with no belief of any religion. There are restrictions in the most of religious doctrine. Therefore, we expect that non religion people to have more suicide rate than the people who have a belief. Also, the effect of divorce on suicide rate and economic development is vaguely in the previous literatures, so we have to explain it from our result of empirical
