Live Like You Re Dying Song Analysis

As Malcolm X once said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” This quote inspires a lot of people like me to try harder and to never stop at one point and give up. In the book The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, is about two people with the same name and born with the same path, going through challenging life obstacles. They both grew up fatherless and had a difficult childhood.

The artists is talking about a young man who’s just found out he was dying, he spent the next few days talking about the :sweet time” and how he was gonna spend his last days. This man did not let the news of dying get to him though, once he let everything set in he really started living, he did things he probably never would have done if he hadn’t found out he didn’t have much time left in his life.

In the song, it talks about how when you’re young, you have so much time ahead of you that you take it all for granted and don’t really live when you’re meant to live. Once you get older however you see how much time you have wasted by doing nothing and then you regret passing up those opportunities. Listening to classic rock (or as my friends refer to it as “dad music”) for my entire life, I have heard many songs about people wasting their younger years and wanting to go back but they can’t. I have always had a motto of “living in the moment” which I think is very common among my generation, but I believe that it really is the smartest way to live. The worst thing you can do is waste your youth with nothing to show for it.

While working on the progress of teaching myself to take risks, I learned to be more selfish, for I have never taken care of my mentality or my appearance instead I worry for other people.
