Romantic values in stories have been the same across time, be it in a story or in a modern movie. These elements have changed in the way they are shown, but still come down to the same sense of values. Modern movies can add sound effects and nice lighting, but older stories rely on vivid imagery and poetic styles to portray romantic values. People turn down love to keep their honor or deal with loneliness on a daily basis. Some people accept loneliness as a way to keep their honor. Both the movie Her and “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” have Honor and Loneliness in common and are comparable as pieces of romantic literature and film. The element of honor is present in both “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” and Her. While Theodore is dating Samantha he could have every opportunity in the world to date someone else alongside Samantha, but he chooses not to. “I’ve never loved anyone the way I love you.” (Jonze). The relationship between Theodore and Samantha is certainly a different one from modern prospective. Their relationship is very one sided, Samantha is there all the time for whenever Theodore wants her, while Theodore has real life commitments and sleep to deal with. In “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” Gawain has to deal with the aspect of loneliness in his life. “I have pledged myself to none, Nor will I for a while” (Gardner 163). When Gawain turns down pledging himself to any specific person he accepts the idea of being lonely for a while.
