When outsiders think of Long Beach, California, they think “hood.” They tend to think a city full of gang members and crime. The beauty of Long Beach is often overlooked because music and movie entertainment highlight the negative aspects of the city. For example, Long Beach native Snoop Dogg often raps about his experience with gang violence, drugs, and sex in Long Beach. In the song “Gangsta Love” Snoop Dogg says, “Straight from Long Beach where we gets more naughtier than Comanche.”
What many people don’t know is Long Beach is California’s second most diverse city, according to the CNBC website, with blacks, whites, Asians, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, homosexuals, heterosexuals, rich and poor all living together cohesively in order

From the smell of grilled meat from family-owned Mexican restaurants to the nonsensical arguing from homeless people on the streets, Long Beach is eclectic and colorful. It is likely to have million-dollar homes on a golf course and around the corner have a seven-person family living in a three-bedroom home wondering how they will pay their next bill. From the richest people in the city to the poorest people in the city one thing that Long Beach natives have in common is love for their city. “I love Long Beach because you get to know all kinds of people without having to leave the city,” said Robert Magee, a Long Beach State student. “I probably will live here after …show more content…
Home of Scholars and Champions.” The school really does live up to the slogan. It is respected by all of the community. Over generations attending the school has become tradition. Children know that they will attend Poly from a young age and never even question it.
“It’s a tradition to go to Poly. My mother, father, sister, and cousins all went there,” said Kweli Gale, a North Carolina Central University student.
Traffic accumulates every morning as parents drop their children off in front of the school on the busy main road. Horns honk and children are screaming to their friends as the parents come to a stop for about seven seconds because the street prohibits parking. You see children walking from every direction down the road as parents aim to beat traffic and drop them off further.
As you walk into the school there is an open area which is known as the “quad.” The school is set up in the shape of a clock with each building being a different number, for example, 100 building, 200 building, etc.

For example, Colleen E. Kelle uses pentadic criticism to analyze former U.S. Congressman George Hansen of Idaho rhetorical decisions made that led to two situations. The first pentad for Kelle was George Hansen's felony conviction in April of 1984. Kelle states, “An agent-purpose ratio dominated this pentadic justification of Hansen's conviction because of a selfish desire for personal gain. Hansen lied about his financial dealings; i.e., flaws in the character of Hansen as agent resulted in selfish goals and illegal actions” (Kelle 206). The second pentadic analysis deals with George Hansen reelection bid.

Bridgewater, Va. – The Treasury Department announced on Wednesday April 20th, abolitionist, and anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman is to replace the 7th president of the United States, Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. This is a mark in history because she will not only be the first African-American to appear on United States paper currency, but also the first woman in over a century. The original plan was to have a woman replace founding father Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill. But that plan was revoked according to Jacob Lew, the Treasury Secretary, when the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical portraying Hamilton’s life gained a lot of support, as reported by USA Today.

The orange Grove at California State University Northridge (CSUN) has been a historical landmark that has historically represented the very essence of CSUN all the way back from the year 1952. It was officially announced as a historical site after the Associated Students claimed it to be so officially in 1972. The orange grove consist of over 400 orange trees, a observatory, a orange grove bistro, and a pond. For many students, faculty, and staff the orange grove pond has always signified a place of inner sanctum, a place of tranquility, and escaping life problems. The inhabitants of the pond consist of ducks, turtles, several native species of insects such as the dragonfly and water bug, and around the pond there are several squirrels scouring about.
Struggles with family relations. Bullying. Inconformity. All of these are reasons that, at the early age of 16, Rod Dreher, the author of The Little Way of Ruthie Leming, left his home in St. Francisville to pursue his own aspirations, to escape his tormented childhood. However, years later, after having built up a life outside of Starhill, Rod moves back to his old hometown; this happens not because the town, the people, or the social order changed in any manor, but because Rod developed a new perspective on the entirety of that which was St. Francisville, Louisiana.

Jane Long had a rough start of life but a great ending that changed the history of Texas for good. Jane Long was born on July 23, 1798 as the tenth child of her big family. Jane’s father, Capt. William Mackall, fought in the revolutionary war before she was born but died in 1799. In 1811 her mother, Ann Herbert Wilkinson, moved their family to Mississippi but died soon after in 1812 making Jane an orphan at age 14.
Through the years, the place symbolizes diversity on a whole other level. During this era, American values and culture was evolving significantly. These modifications caused quite a stir amongst the majority, but nonetheless did more so to gear society to come together and enjoy the things Coney Island has to offer. Immigration came pouring in this period, to which Coney Island “provided a means [for immigrants] to participate in mainstream American culture on an equal footing” (Kasson 40). It also gave individuals the opportunity to interact with a mixture of people, “[encouraging] visitors to shed momentarily their accustomed roles and status” (Kasson
But even here our good intentions seem to have run into the brick wall of human nature” (Brooks 332). At the end of the day, since we humans don’t really care about diversity, we end up hanging around people who think like us, or like the same things we like. People live near other people from their same religion or even home country. A good example would be Flushing, NY where many people from China live. Brooks stated “Once they find a town in which people share their values, they flock there, and reinforce whatever was distinctive about the town in the first place” (332).
Sexual preferences may be seen as one of the factors included within diversity, because they make every citizen of El Paso able to choose what they want for themselves, and what their true identity is. Overall by being able to accept the many differences across the city, El Paso has grown as a city that provides with several
Buena Vista—which literally translates to ‘Good View’ in English—is a really nice place to stay in Colorado. It is not only the Arkansas River that can be enjoyed from the town, there are also other attractions that are worth visiting here. For example, you can head to the South Main River Park. The park is known to be the longest whitewater park in the United States. The park features many fishing venues for those who are into fishing.
The example I used in my post was about where I am from and how everyone tries to contribute. If someone is hungry, they will ask them if they want food, they try to work as a team and never think they are better than someone else. Also, the atmosphere is much calmer, everyone is not rushed to do things, unlike in Las Vegas where everything is fast-paced. I feel like living in Las Vegas, not everyone is a close group. There are those who help others, but from what I have seen it’s the “ let the best man win” type of attitude.
Other scholars have documented that when communities go through preservation periods, this may also be followed by reinvestment and gentrification (Lees et al. 2013). However, wealthy people do not just go around with the intention of displacing families in communities. Besides greedy landowners, there are other mechanisms that factor into gentrification and displacement. Be it a vibrant ethnic culture, a booming art scene, or trendy restaurants, creative factors that welcome diversity attract outside community members to either participate or invest (Florida 2003). Even if heritage, art, and restaurants may have been created for current residents, people with more financial mobility are able to participate in cultural consumption at their
But, living in a multicultural city is by itself a very beneficial exercise not only on a personal level but also in terms of cultural exchange, economic exchange and generating new ideas. One experiences what is called cultural variety when living in a diverse area. He is somehow introduced to new kinds of foods, architectures, arts, music, festivals, religions, mythologies, writings and more of general day-to-day life. These new things would easily open one’s heart and mind to new places, new ideas and new people. According to (Wolfstone, 2010) nowadays all people around the world happily go out and eat Chinese food, use Japanese technology, drive German
