What if you were to get stranded on a island? Would your personality change? Or would it stay the same? In the book Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, a group of British boys crash on an island, with no way out. They can be hopeful, but the situation is not looking good for them. They soon adapt, and learn the ways of the island. They find out how to make fires, and build shelters. Yet as the days go by, they quickly learn about a mysterious beast lurking nearby. Soon their natural instincts change. Golding suggests that violence is overwhelming because makes you act peculiarly different when you usually wouldn’t, as shown through the beast. Jack was able to get his way and finally convince the group to go with him, and hunt the beast. They didn’t have a clue of what the beast looked like, but went anyways. “‘Supposing the beasts up there?’ Jack brandished his spear.’We’ll kill it’. The sun seemed a little cooler. He slashed with his spear”(Golding 116). This quote is clearly showing that they are prepared to kill if it came to it. They have now become wild animals that are capable of acting out viciously. As soon as they were to come face to face with the beast, they would do anything in their power to murder it, showing no mercy. …show more content…
When they caught first glimpse of it, they immediately jumped on him and brutally tore him to pieces, “At once, the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beats, screamed, struck, bit, tore. There were no words, and no movements, but the tearing of teeth and claws”(Golding 153). All the boys joined in on this, and not a single one stopped to actually see that the beast was Simon. Everyone got over excited and violence just took hold of their bodies. The beast they had inside they made them hungry for killing, which controlled them to act barbaric and leave their civilized manners
Argumentative Claims Claim #1: The young boys weren't living in a normal environment which lead them to savagery. Claim #2 Relationships were falling apart which lead the boys to challenge each other. Claim
Most of them turned to this savage figure by having this idea of a beast put into their minds. They aren’t sure what could be lurking in the terrain of the island. The boys want to be able to protect themselves and most of them transform into savages. With this fear in them they did indescribable actions. They killed an innocent boy because they were afraid of something that might not even be real.
Girls are so much more mature than boys. Imagine if in the story, Lord of the Flies, there were only girl characters. Lord of the Flies is a book about a group of kids who were stranded on an island from a plane crash, and were left to try to survive by themselves . The novel takes place on an uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean. The book starts off by Ralph and Piggy discovering a conch shell and Ralph becoming the leader because he is in control of the conch.
“Men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire,” says author of The da Vinci Code, Dan Brown. A perfect example of this quote is demonstrated in the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. This story takes place during World War ll, where the British evacuate children out of England for safety. An evacuation plane holding a group of schoolboys crash into an unknown island, and the passengers of boys have to learn to survive there without any adults until rescue arrives. The boys try to remain focused on being rescued, but eventually they let their fear overcome them The character Ralph has the responsibility of being chief and demonstrates characteristics of confidence and leading.
Looking for Someone to Blame: Who Is Guilty of Murders of Simon and Piggy There is always someone who is responsible for the crime that was committed. In the Lord of the Flies by William Golding many crimes were described but no one was directly accused of committing them. The most serious of crimes is murder. Boys on the island tore Simon apart.
In the Lord of the Flies, there was a continuous and taunting chant the boys on the island would say “Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!” (Golding 154). This chant has been a prime example of how the boys society had a downfall when they arrived on the island.
Many would be confounded how civilized men can become savage so rapidly when put in an uncivilized restricted district. We all are fully aware that guns are the number one weapon used in murders, but many are astounded when they are informed that personal weapons such as a body part is fourth on the list. How could one commit a cold blooded murder with their bare hands? A countless number of people would deny they have enough strength within to accomplish this. What if one told you we all possess this quality.
Jack tries to discredit him by calling a meeting about the beast and turning the tables to say some negative things about Ralph which means that Jack is ignoring the rules of society and going rogue, evil to say in his voice. “Yes. The beast is a hunter. Only-shut up! The next thing is that we couldn’t kill it.
According to the University of Minnesota, his brain must have perceived all of the fear in the group of boys as negative and remembered it when he was tired, causing him to imagine the Lord of the Flies character. This quote is an example of Simon’s brain reacting to the signals from the amygdala, instead of rational processing. “They became motionless, gripped in each other’s arms, four unwinking eyes aimed and two mouths open” (Golding 98). Their unwavering fear of the beast magnified their experience from merely seeing the movement of the dead paratrooper to seeing a threat and consequently caused them to experience the sight before them more terrifying. Moreover, their fear has caused them to become incapacitated, according to the University of Minnesota, as they did not run away immediately after seeing the paratrooper that they perceived as the beast.
In Lord of the Flies, the war paint represents the savagery that has taken over the kids. Towards the beginning of the novel Ralph said, “ ‘Well, we won’t be painted,’ said Ralph, “because we aren’t savages’ ” (Golding 66). This quote shows that at first the children had control over their savageness in them. When the the children were first introduced to the island they still had a lot of their manners, that controlled their savageness.
Miguel Salas Mr. Delgado English 9.4 January 26 2023 The Horror of a Humans True Nature Leadership can be described as how well you can plan and lead people to a better future. Leadership is doing things even if you don't want to for the better of the people. Such ideas are significant because if they can do these things, they would be overly capable to lead.
Jack hated the idea of rescue, not because he did not want to be rescued, but because if he promoted it, it would make Jack look he was giving into fear. Instead, he condoned rescue, and put the idea of killing the beast into people’s heads. The fear of the beast got him into power, and made not only leader, but savage. The more and more he kept hunting, the more and more his savage side came out. Until, he finally killed the “beast.”
Corruption’s Rise to Power Combined Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler killed 54 million people. This begs the question, why do people who are clearly corrupted and even murderous followed by many? William Golding in his novel The Lord of the Flies attempts to answer that question through his portrayal of the character, Jack. In the novel, a group of boys get stranded on an island and attempt to create a proper government.
The collective fear of the unknown leads to the untimely and accidental death of Simon. The distress present in the boys causes their impulsive action, of Simon’s horrific murder. Fear of “the beast” an imaginary creature causes the boys to act irrational, and provokes survival instincts as a result of life threatening terror. The fear of the boys in this moment is epitomized when they chant, “Kill the beast!, Cut his throat, Spill his blood!” (168).
This excerpt identifies the willful murder of “the beast” and further exemplifies how brainwashed and invested in hunting the tribe became. The tribe's infatuation for the game of hunting was taken so far out of line, they believed they were killing an unrealistic beast. The observation from the start of the characters journey to the deepest points show drastic change in their character, this further proving the effect on an environment on an individual. Lindberg articulates, “Your environment might raise or lower your stress levels, for instance. This can change your mental wellness overall, either serving to protect your psychological health or opening the door for mental illness to set in.”
