I spent a whole weekend with the founding father of jazz, LOUIS ARMSTRONG! Well, not Louis Armstrong himself but whenever I speak about or describe Cameron, their characteristics are quite similar. Cameron was different. He was unique in a sense. He has a presence that is undeniable, though often not understood by most. Not only is he the smartest person I had ever met, Cameron exuberates kindness, compassion, and warm-heartiness. Unfortunately, many people do not see Cameron as I do or know what he has to offer. Cameron has Asperger syndrome, which is a form of autism; because of this he is very socially awkward. He has never been able to interact well with others. Society may see him as “challenge”, but I see him as unexpected role model. …show more content…
The band was invited to participate in Southern University’s homecoming parade and attend their homecoming game. Cameron and I are both in the band; he is trumpet player and I was a color guard member. I was extremely excited to go. This was going to be my trip of firsts. It was the first time a performing in parade, going to Louisiana, and visiting Southern University. I thought I was going to have so much fun and being away from my parents for a whole weekend was also a plus. Due to the sleeping arrangements at the hotel there were two band members per room. Cameron and I were chosen to room together, and I was not thrilled about it at all. I remember thinking, “Really, him out of all people; out all people, I get the weird boy.” Everyone in band was making joke about me stuck with Cameron. I even can to our band director, Mr. Tilford and begged him to let me room with some else. He said no and just like that I knew my weekend was ruined by the weird boy (not knowing that weird boy would teach me the most important lessons of my life). After getting over my initial distain, I decided to strike up conversation with Cameron. He was a mixture of reluctant and an awkward at first, but eventually he stated to open up. Honestly, he did not have choice because I kept bothering him with
Alongside football games, the Mighty Trojan Marching Band attends many competitions throughout the marching season. Bands true mettle are shown on the field. Competitions are a highlight for many members of the band, since they are filled with rival bands, food and music. While marching band members see band having an ultimatum, get a trophy, or don’t try, Band director Mr. Farrell stresses the importance of professionalism, effort and fun. Third year marcher, trumpet player and junior Blakely Parker added, “What beats talent?
He even made some friends along the way. Not only did he help people understand just him, but all the other students attending his school with autism. His goal in life is to help the world gain a knowledge and understanding of autism in the hopes that people will be more accepting of others. Recently I signed up to volunteer at a camp over this summer in San
It was March 1963 at Mississippi State University. I was going to class early to get in some last minute cramming before the test over chapter 14. Even though my friend Eric Swan and I study all night. Eric was my best friend from high school. Eric and I did everything together, except when he was with his racist friends.
At this point in time I was finally getting used to the fact that Point Pleasant was my new home. I went to the pool party which was held at the Atlantic Club. I was joined with many classmates and students from the whole grade. I remember this event as being one of the most fun where we we got swim and just have fun being kids. The reason why this event stands
I feel like god gave me this gift to show people that’s how you’re supposed to do it. That’s what I’m going to do.” He was asked about himself being a role model. His main concern is being a role model for his own son.
His legacy serves as a powerful reminder that one person can make a difference and that every individual can contribute to positive change in the
Those days were always the best three weeks I 've had in my life just because I 've always wanted to be a dancer and the fact that I was able to even perform at MY party was amazing, and we always practiced for three hours, so you really know that we couldn’t mess up. Of course, we would take our little breaks in between our rehearsal, honestly what got a lot better was that I was able to dance to my favorite singer, her name is Jennifer Lopez, I 've always wanted to be like her growing up, she also dances and I let my teacher know about that and we watched her video to the song that I was going to dance too and we added a lot of her dance moves into my routine and I literally felt like I was dancing just like her. It got even better, the whole idea of it being it a surprise dance is that no one of my family member 's or anyone I knew was able to go in there with me because it would defeat the whole purpose of it being a surprise.
Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Soon after his birth, his father, William Armstrong, left. With his father leaving, Louis’ mother, Maryann, decided it would be best if he went to go live with his grandmother, Josephine. While Armstrong was living with his grandmother, “Maryann gave birth to a daughter, the result of a temporary reconciliation with William.” (Brown, Page 15) Louis’ sister, Beatrice, was two years younger than him.
The contributions these figures had on society significantly impacted the world, inspiring generations to come. One such person was Louis Armstrong, who is one of the most influential artists in jazz history, who helped develop it into the art that it is now. He is most famous for songs like “What a Wonderful World” or “ When It’s Sleepy Time Down South”. This is because the songs were the first of their kind in the 1920’s that were so energetic and had so much rhythm.
Arguably one of the very best is Louis Armstrong. Known to be well versed in not only trumpet but also vocals and even composition. Louis Armstrong inspired many people across a wide range. He was so actively involved in everything going on around him. He was one of the only African American musicians who spoke up against political issues, he publically talked about the wrongness of school segregation (Harris).
Because of his outstanding ability to motivate us, the quality of our music and marching drills rapidly improved. As a result, we were awarded superior ratings and best in class awards during our Fall competition season. My service as band president has taught me the value of a good work ethic, the strength to go the extra mile, commitment, and selflessness. I will carry these lessons with me to college next year and eventually to my chosen career as a Graphic Designer. In an interview with a local news station about our band’s fundraising drive to purchase new uniforms, I said, “It’s a new era for the Ardmore Tiger Marching Band.”
High school was an extreme thrill from the first day of my freshman year. As I stepped off the school bus and entered the building, I knew that Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School would be my home for the next four years. BrewTech was ranked the number five school in the state, so I knew I was among the elite and had big shoes to fill. As I began to stroll the halls to locate my class, I was greeted by smiling faces of students and teachers a like. With minor bumps in the road, I completed my freshman year in high school acquiring friends that I still have today.

It was a cold, snowy day. Jakey, Scott and I got ready to go to school. Jakey was 17, I was 14, and scott was 20. Jakey and I had to go to school while our dad was dropping off Scott for a College interview for MIT.
