The definition of heroism changes with the context, time, and point of view. The archetype of heroism is defined as someone who is strong, intelligent, brave, and daring. A hero usually has some type of supernatural power that helps them combat a malicious villain or force. Heroes of the past are not essentially heroes of the present, and vice versa. Upon closer and more personal consideration, many more qualities of what makes a hero become evident. Valor, honesty, selflessness, the will to persevere, and someone who is above all hatred are just a few overlooked and “more recent” qualities of what it takes to be a hero.

I think John Brown was a hero, because he tried to find ways to free slaves. Even though he killed people or got people killed in the process, he still was trying his best to help free slaves. Andrew Jacksons presidenicy was very complicated. He was a man that believed that the white folk should be treated evenly. The poor sohuld get momey like the rich, and the rich should get money the same way as the poor. I believe that Riel is a hero because he stood up for the rights of the Metis to the Canadian government during the Red River Settlement and the Northwest Rebellion. In my opinion Louis Riel is a martyr because of the things he did for his beliefs. Being a martyr requires more than just a cause, it requires the individual to have strong beliefs for their religion, and then being killed due to those beliefs. Louis Riel would be classified as a martyr due to his actions and contributions for his religion as a Metis man. He helped develop and create an identity for the Metis community. Andrew Carnegie, known as the king of steel, grew up poor, but became one of the richest and most successful business owner during the 1800s and 1900s. On November 16, 1885, 41 year old Louis David Riel was executed. Riel was born on October 22nd , 1844 in Saint-Boniface, Red river settlement. Louis Riel was the oldest child out of the eleven children his parents, Louis Riel Sr and Julie Lagimodière had. Growing up Louis Riel was a smart student. For his education, he went to Collège de Montréal from 1858-1865. Louis Riel returned back to his hometown, after hearing the news that his father passed away. Although Riel left his education at a young age, he became a teacher, a Canadian politician and a lawyer which is considered one of his accomplishments.
