Different people have different cultures and many people have multiple cultures caused from having parents from different cultures causing the child to have two cultures. I find using culture in poetry is very interesting. What is interesting about it is that different people use different ways to show from which culture they come from. The two poems that have been chosen to compare and contrast are “Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan” by Moniza Alvi and “Love after Love” by Derek Walcott. First Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan is going to be analyzed the afterwards Love after Love then in the conclusion the differences and similarities of the two poems.

Camel skin lamps are handiwork that has been practiced in Multan “Pakistan” for almost a millennium . Whereas the tin boats are typically British they used to be one of the main toys English children were given before electronics existed. So the poet expressed that material objects can also be part of culture.

“Love after Love” by Derek Walcott is about is about self-discovery. The poet Derek Walcott has two different cultures African and English. The Poem talks about loving yourself. When it comes to loving yourself you have to love every single part and a big part of a personality is culture. The poet says that “At your own door, in your own mirror”(line 4) this means that you need to find yourself. This means that you have to choose which culture you want to embrace
