Chapter 2 Literature Review Various investigators have described and developed so many methods for the automatic detection of lung nodules from CT scan images and also several researchers are came up to facilitate the fast diagnosis of diseases regarding the image analysis methods. Some of the developed techniques and research works of number of groups for computer-assissted segmentation and classification of CT images are listed below. Texture Information in Run-Length Matrices by Xiaoou Tang in IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON IMAGE PROCESSING, VOL. 7, NO. 11, NOVEMBER 1998 uses a multilevel dominant eigenvector estimation algorithm For developing a new run-length texture feature extraction algorithmthat provides texture information in run-length …show more content…

M.A, Liwen Shih used texture analysis with the co-occurrence matrix method to varify ultrasonograms from normal and diseased livers, and X-ray CT images obtained from normal cases and cases of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia. Ten cases of normal, fatty, and cirrhotic livers, ten cases of normal lungs and ten cases of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, all confirmed by clinics are the subjects of this study. They compared the results of texture analysis in normal and infected livers under the same conditions of gain, focus, magnification rate, probe frequency, and depth of the region of interest. Here we discuss the relationship between Fisher ratio of texture analysis and pathological character. The normal and diseased liver groups did not differ significantly. The different pathological grades of fibrosis and different size of modules in the cirrhotic and normal liver groups have different Fisher ratios. They have compared the results of texture analysis with images normal cases and cases of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia. Interesting differences between normal lungs and those with idiopathic interstitial pneumonia were found. Thus they think texture analysis can be used to analyze ultrasonograms obtained from lesions of different pathological grades and to classify CT
