It is important to notify the users about any changes company makes to privacy policy because these agreements administrate the relationship between company and its customers. The company will lawfully need to announce on their website about changes to let customers or users know when this new policy will take effect. As Milne (2000) reported, consumer privacy is enhanced when consumers are aware of information practices and are given a choice over information provision and use.
The data that would be ethically responsible in sharing is to give customers the authorization to opt out if they don’t agree with any changes a company makes. The leadership could be sensibly permitted to share their company’s performance and presentation information to third parties, which does not violate the business of the other objects.
Conclusion
The Privacy Policy is a legal agreement that should protect their customer information and data that has collected is only confidential. If the company decides to sell the data to any social media platform, it will be unethical for the company. According to Hooker’s ethical rules, if the company tries to sell their customer data, they have failed in the virtue of ethics test and therefore failed the generalization test, which makes their action to be unethical.

For example, she acknowledges that Facebook has taken steps to address some of the concerns around its data collection practices, such as introducing new privacy tools and limiting data access for third-party apps. However, she argues that these measures are insufficient and that Facebook's business model is fundamentally at odds with user privacy and democratic values. By anticipating and addressing potential objections to her argument, Molla is able to strengthen her overall case and make it more difficult for readers to dismiss
In the article, “Should Tech Companies Pay Us for Our Data?” Andreas Weigend questions if companies should pay us for our data. Weigend’s purpose is to inform and explain to the audience that companies are making billions of dollars from using our data. He expresses that data is very valuable by telling us that companies treat data as an asset and data is often used for decision-making. Weigend uses stylistic techniques, establishes credibility, and provides an article that his audience can understand to create an effective and informative argument for the audience.
In a recently published article titled “The Daily You : How The New Advertising Industry Is Defining Your Identity And Your Worth,” by Joseph Turow, states that well-known media corporations such as Facebook and Google have been “data mining.” Simply to speak, data mining is the collection of internet data that is sold off and used as research for marketing companies to further develop ideas to engage potential targets. Notably, Turow states that the twenty-first century exhibits one of the most stealthy methods of social profiling. Turow further illustrates his stance on how the intrusion of privacy can lead to several negative factors in which he later goes in depth about. Though he structures the body of the essay around
Over time, “computer and information technology (IT) for gathering, storing, manipulating, and communicating data are revolutionizing the use and spread of information” (Lynch, 1994, para. 1), in which IT is making the world that has become more open, “ubiquitous in the lives of people across the global” (Sullings, 2014, para. 1). Along the way, every advancement in information technology (IT) is accompanied by ethical issues (Mehrotra, 2012, p. 419). The fundamental ethic issues in IT are the privacy, property, accuracy, and use of individuals’ personal sensitive information. The Fair Credit Reporting Act of 1970 (FCRA); and the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 (FSMA), which also known as Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 (GLBA) are two examples of important pieces of legislation regarding the financial industry and privacy. These two legislations have been created as a direct response to consumer privacy and security protections in the advancements of IT that resulted in new ethical issues.
Individuals have the right to privacy, which the GDPR protects, must be provided regardless of its use and origin, but interests must be safeguarded. The use of information about individuals must be voluntary and justifiable.
Throughout my entire life I have been constantly learning and improving a wide range of personal and social leadership skills, especially in these most recent few years of middle school and high school. These skills have not only helped me to get where I am today, but have also become a huge influence for my personality and overall perception of the world around me. These skills have helped me to build relationships, gain experience and opportunities, improve my personal outlook, and change my entire approach to everything I do in a positive way. But I know it does not stop there. It is never truly possible to fully possess a leadership skill in its entirety.
They have a declared privacy policy that highlights this aspect of
The companies also sell people’s private information to make a profit, which is making people’s private life into a “product.” Although customized advertisements are useful for buyers and positive for corporations, targeted ads invade people’s privacy because tech companies manipulatively use people’s browser histories to endorse products, and secretly sell people’s personal information for revenue, turning individuals into
Explain legal and ethical tensions between maintaining confidentiality and sharing information Obligations when sharing data means that when we collect, use and share data with people in the company require us to take into consideration the legal landscape and expected ethical standards for processing and research purposes. In the UK there is a ‘duty of confidentiality’ that is based in common law and that occurs where confidential information comes to the knowledge of a person in circumstances where it would be unfair if it were then to be disclosed to others. According to Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA, http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/29/contents), data is defined as any personal information used by organisations, businesses or the
Users have a tendency to skim internet privacy policies information regarding the distribution of personal information only, and the more legalistic the policies appear, the less likely users are to even read the information. Furthermore, if the user has already done business with a company, or is previously familiar with a product, they have a tendency to not read privacy policies that the company has posted. As internet companies become more established, their policies may change, but their clients will be less likely to inform themselves of the
A privacy policy is one of the most important documents on any website. Review of Literature Unethical behavior can tarnish a company’s image and reputation. If a company is unethical, they may have to spend additional money to improve their public image, as well as gain back as many customers as possible. The reason I have chosen to use articles that are quite a few years old and that are not so recent is because I feel that they are very good examples of what I am trying to prove in the terms of ethical behaviour within companies and these specific articles relate well to my chosen topic.
