GREATWK – S21 The Philippines is in need of a Machiavellian leader. This leader must be able to control the different aspects that lies within the Philippines. With the current state of the Philippines a Machiavellian leader will be able to help in changing the system, there may be people who will hinder the change whoever this leader must be able to find support for his or her change. He must be able to successfully initiate the change to let the people know of this change and lastly, pursue and execute this change. The state is unorderly and is currently unstable.
The current condition of the Philippine Society, I can say is weak, dependent and scattered. The Philippines is weak because of its past rulers’ close mindedness. Weak in the sense of fortification, the Philippines is not well equipped of necessary mechanisms for defense and better yet offense. Due to past rulers depending on a bigger nation like the United States. At Marcos’ time there was a fleet present in the Pacific that is why he did

With the common people he must be able to cater to their basic needs and keep them satisfied, so that in time when he needs help he will be able to use the number of the common people to be able to win. Establishing connections within the nobility may be able to help the leader to govern his people. By doing so he may be able to get the necessary resources to get his are sustained or appoint someone to become his or her adviser. It may be promising but the leader must not put his or her trust in the nobility so much that he won’t be able to exercise his actions or let the nobility think that they are just equal. The leader must still be able to let the nobility realize that their source of power comes from the leader and that in anytime a leader can overthrow any nobility down to the
Lao Tzu and Machiavelli have different perspective on how a leader should lead, one believes in a compassionate leader while the other believes in a cunning leader. These seemingly contrasting ideas can be combined to form an effective leader. Lao Tzu’s idea of a compassionate leader is compatible with Machiavelli’s idea of a cunning leader, because these ideas are complementary. For a leader to become respected and praised, one must be compassionate to one’s subjects. A leader must try to act for the benefit of the citizens, one must have empathy towards the people.
American wanted to control the Philippines government to get closer to China for trading. Another interest is access to trading. According to Document 1, “Process of three hundred years of superstition in religion, dishonesty in dealing, disorder in habits of industry, and cruelty, caprice, and corruption in government. It is barely possible that 1,000 men in all archipelago are capable of self-government.” US President, McKinley believed they couldn’t govern themselves against other nations.
A lot of these effects were based on the US economy and the high amount of money that the US had to spent to annex the Philippines. This was not a smart investment. In William Jennings Bryan 's speech “Paralyzing Influence of Imperialism”, he mentions that “We dare not educate them [Filipinos] lest they learn to read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States and mock us for our inconsistency.” (Doc D). Bryan was running candidate for the president of the United States.
Wherever human beings are accumulated together in large numbers, they need leadership. Even a school needs a principle to mentor and escalate the school’s rank. Armies need generals to lead them to a courageous victory. Civilians need governments, captains of industry and intellectual leaders of thought as well. However, There are characteristics common to most great leaders that can be picked out.
A leader’s cruelty enables him to make the decisions necessary for the kingdom, while also being miserly to keep the people happy. I think that Machiavelli’s advice provides a sound basis on how leaders today can lead. On other hand, others may argue that Machiavelli’s advice leads rulers astray and rather rulers should be kind and generous because morally that is the right thing to do. No matter the interpretation of how a ruler should lead, Machiavelli's analyst of a leaders provides insight into everyday life and causes leaders today to think about how they
What is my leadership philosophy? Over twenty years ago, I raised my right hand and took an oath of office by which I swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).
Probably one of the most infamous and controversial ideologies of the 16th century, the prince by Machiavelli has been a reference for many great leaders and academicians since it was published. The book provides historically tested and proven principles of leadership. The prince has been described as a manual for those who want to win and retain power. While some may argue that leadership is an inherent trait in human, leaders are made, not born. Making a great leader out of a person is not just a matter of identifying the leadership traits, skill and talents of the individual, but harnessing the traits, develop them and eventually mastering how to be leader.
Being a prince is not as easy as it may seem. There are good and bad decisions a prince can make. Machiavelli has his own standards on how a prince should behave. According to Machiavelli, a prince could be considered a lion, a fox, or a wolf. The lion is fierce but doesn’t have the smarts, while a fox has the smarts but isn 't fierce.
1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time. I consider myself a leader, i believe this because i am the type of person that feels like if i am not the one to do it then it will not be done the right way. Whenever i would work in groups i would designate myself to be the one to do the harder assignment, because i only trusted that would take it serious, not anyone else. Also, whenever i do anything that involves a team, i like to take control, because i feel like i am the best one to work under pressure or i can choose the best solution for any situation.
From my point of view , Leadership has more to it than I can possibly imagine. I define leadership as the art of enabling a group of people get to a specific destination. As a leader your main focus was to enable your followers lead theselves. As i think deeper i realise a person cannot choose to be a leader. I think a lot of the time people take on leadership positions without knowing.
This is a work that still influences us today and is still relevant in today’s complex society. Some of the most prominent leaders of the 20th century have been influenced by Machiavellian ideas. U.S Presidents like Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton and U.K Prime Minister Anthony Blair are called Machiavellian leaders today. According to Machiavelli a prince must focus all his serious time and energy to war and how to wage it (Machiavelli, 31).
INTRODUCTION A leader is one of the main component of an organization. There is no organization without a leader. A leader is a person who have the power or authority to lead, guide, or command other individual, a team, or an organization. As an organization is a tool to achieve an objective, there is a need of a leader to lead everyone in the organization to achieve the objective.
It is perhaps opportunely that our government is able to push through boundaries and traditions to come up with resolutions and better policies/laws. All this time, the Philippine Economy has been deemed to have strong growth hindered by political uncertainties. This is so true. We have a potential to be great and yet we still move slow towards our development and sustainability. Our country has its own strengths and weaknesses that affect positively and/or negatively our over-all status.
