“If you’re going to do something, then do it right.” This quote is a great representation of my attitude towards my education. With that, I always make sure that I excel in all my classes and join organizations that will benefit me in the long run. Knowing that being a possible member of the National Honor Society will highlight my academics, leadership, character, and service, I believe that NHS will also give me the opportunity to shape myself and continue going in the direction of a successful future. Primarily, my background has pushed me to work well and take on the rigorous challenge of applying for NHS. Living in a small province in the Philippines, it was very difficult for my family to gain an education.
"An Hour with Abuelo" by, Judith Ortiz Cofer illustrates the theme of hope and high ideals or goals. In the story it says "And I think he could've been a teacher if he wanted it bad enough. Nobody is going to stop me from doing what I want in life. "(Ortiz Cofer596) This shows high ideals and ambition. Also it says "I always wanted to be a writer with my heart and soul I knew I wanted to be around books all of my life.

I plan to utilize the lessons I learned in high school to continue to excel in the classroom. I love the idea that by being in the JMU Honors program, I will have access to smaller classes, engaged faculty and experiential learning. I am excited at the thought of living and studying with other students who have my same academic focus and I look forward to taking advantage of every opportunity the program would offer. In summary, I think I would be the perfect candidate for the JMU Honors program because I have a desire to continually challenge myself and to strive for excellence. I want to make the most of my four years of college and, just like high school, I plan to excel academically.
What I hope to gain by participating in Roosevelt’s Graduate Assistantship is continued knowledge and success. As I reflect on my collegiate experience, I have endured on a long journey to get to this point in my life. Hard work, determination, and unwavering faith has helped get me to this point.
