(a) In India most of the state baring few state like Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka the legal drinking age has been specified as 25 Years. Who is responsible for creating such an absurd rule? Why is alcohol deemed a harmful and dangerous drink to an eighteen-year-old? My intentions with this paper are to express my opinion on why the legal drinking age should be eighteen. Turning eighteen in America is like a double-edged sword. You are finally viewed in the eyes of the law as an adult, but with limitations.
In the article “College Presidents Seek Debate on Drinking Age” the issue of lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18 is strongly discussed by college presidents and various organizations and Universities. Even though both parties agree that alcohol abuse in colleges is an extensive problem in schools around the country, college organizations are debating with lawmakers to lower the drinking age. With the intention to reduce driving accidents and deaths due to alcohol abuse, the drinking age was elevated to 21, creating the rejection of many college students and administrators in the country. Lowering the drinking age to 18 would not have much impact in the attitude of young people since there is no much difference in maturity in 3 years. This statement is supported by a Duke University sophomore from Singapore, where the drinking age is lower.
If there wasn’t a big enough market for alcohol, there naturally wouldn’t have been as many suppliers; but, since there wasn’t a ban on consumption, it was natural to have a bigger market and more suppliers. This leads to the next indictment of
Not everyone has the capable power of purchasing the alcohol at 18 years old. Evidence shows that people have a more mature way of making the right decision at 21. Now, half of the population in Australia agree with ‘raise the drinking age to 21 ' It is time to raise the legal drinking age to 21 in Australia. By doing that, we can protect young people’s lives, and do something to prevent the accidents happen in advance.
This demonstrates how much profit companies make off of illegally selling alcohol to citizens. The prohibition of alcohol was another step toward the beginning of the Great
Prohibition: Why Did America Change Its Mind? Al Capone once said “ Prohibition has done nothing but trouble”. Ending the manufacture and transport of alcohol will only make situations worse. After the 18th Amendment was passed, the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages in the U.S. was illegal.
Before the National Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed it was legal for people of the age of eighteen to purchase and consume alcohol. The United States has the highest legal drinking age, 21, in the world. In most countries in Europe it is
"In general, the younger people start to drink the safer they are," said Heath, who has written several books and hundreds of scholarly articles on cultural attitudes towards alcohol. When introduced early, he said, "Alcohol has no mystique. It's no big deal. By contrast, where it's banned until age 21, there's something of the 'forbidden fruit' syndrome." and if the United States has learned anything from not letting people drink it is that it does not last very long and that the citizens always find a way around the system and break the laws like how gas stations still sell alcohol to minors just like most gas stations sell cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, dip, chaw, chew, chewing tobacco, vapor cigarettes, hookah, hookah pens.
all dropped to the age 18 or 19 . Thus, alcohol should stay away from young adults. In summary, the drinking age needs to be changed. First of all, health organizations are more involved with raising the drinking age, second of all drunk driving happens more frequently nowadays, and finally young adults and teens should not be drinking under the ages of 21.
When it comes to alcohol they are still just kids. Where’s the fairness in the age being 21 and not 18? Why is 21 the "magical" age that makes one intelligent and mature enough to consume alcohol? Surely, some adults abuse alcohol and some teenagers would be perfectly able to drink responsibly. Accidents will happen no matter what age you start drinking it.
“ [The drinking age] is unfavorable because it forces youth to consume alcohol in unsupervised places that are risky and consumption may be abused.” The idea is, if the drinking age is lowered, youth will be able to drink in open, public places that can be supervised by others. By being public, it would decrease the risky behavior seen with alcohol in private, unsupervised settings. Pomata also asserts, “The age restriction inspires undesirable activities just as the National Prohibition Act did.” Some undesirable activities that are associated with underage drinking include the making and distributing of fake ID’s.
In the United States, turning 18 is a huge step for people as it marks individuals entering the adult world. At that age they are considered an adult in society. Open to more liberties, these young adults can drive, vote, join the military, and die for their country; however, they cannot possess or purchase alcohol. The current minimum legal drinking age, also known as MLDA, in America is 21. Numerous debates still occur today about the minimum drinking age.
