It is the study of food that is working in our bodies, our source of energy, and the medium so that the nutrients can function. Say that nutrition as the building blocks of life. The essential nutrients are carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, mineral and water. The moment we begin to digest our food is the start of the absorption of nutrients.
Nutrients are molecules in food that every organism needs to produce energy, grow, develop, and reproduce. Nutrients are digested and later on broken down into basic parts to be used by the organism. Plants and animals’ intake nutrients differently. Plants take in nutrients from the soil through their roots and from the atmosphere through their leaves. For animals, it has specialized digestive systems that work in order to break down macronutrients for energy and utilize. Macronutrients for both anabolism and metabolism in the body.
The elements of macronutrients are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur. Macronutrients are needed in large amounts because they are the components of organic compounds in cells which includes water. There are seventeen elements that are important to plant’s growth and survival. It is divided by two main groups, these are non-mineral and mineral. Hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon are the non-mineral nutrients. Those nutrients can be found in the air and water. In photosynthesis, plants use energy from the sun to carbon dioxide and water into sugars and starches. Starches and sugars are plant’s food.
The mineral nutrients have groups which are divided by two: the macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are broken into two groups: primary and secondary nutrients. Primary nutrients are nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. They are lack from the soil because the plants use large amounts for growth and survival.
