THE REALITY AND REPRESENTATION OF MADHUBALA AND DILIP KUMAR’S LOVE STORY INTRODUCTION Madhubala ( Mumtaz Jahan) was one of the few actresses of Bollywood who earned much love and respect in a very short period of time. Madhubala was born on Valentine day, February 14, 1933. Perhaps nobody knew that, one day, she will be known as the most beautiful and romantic heroine of India. But, unfortunately, her premature death linked her to Marilyn Monroe and Meena Kumari who also died so early when the world was not ready to accept that reality. In chapter number 12 of the book The substance and the shadow, Dilip talks about the movie. The film took almost seven years to complete. The most interesting thing is that the half of the film spell was shoot when Madhubala and Dilip Kumar’s real life love was at the peak. But the most interesting thing that Dilip Kumar mentioned in the book is that one of the most romantic scenes of the film Mughal e Azam in which Dilip Kumar was rubbing feather on Madhubala’s lips and eyes and their imaginations were on fire, was shot when both of them had stopped even greeting each other.
