The chapter will be a modest attempt to understand that how Kashmir came under the Dogras with Maharaja Gulab Singh as the founder of the Dogra dynasty in Kashmir which led to the formation of modern state of Jammu and Kashmir. This was the time when Kashmir came under the rule of Dogras. The chapter will also discuss that what were the relations of Maharaja Gulab Singh with the British. Further an analysis would also be made that how the British started to interfere in the matters of Dogra administration by appointing their own residents in Kashmir.
Dogra Dynasty

Gulab Singh the adventurous youth, was the son of Mian Kishore Singh who lived mainly on his jagir near samba, twenty four miles to the south of Jammu city.
