Max Weber was a German sociologist and political economist who extended the basics of bureaucracy in the 1920s. He described bureaucracy as “an authoritative type of hierarchical organisation which is designed rationally to co-ordinate the work of many individuals in pursuit of large scale administrative tasks.”( BOOK) A bureaucracy is a type of management that is mostly adopted by large organisations such as universities as well as government agencies like the Armed forces . Under this system, the organizing and controlling of large amount of workers in a single organization is much more convenient which ensures the systematic coordination of individual work so as to achieve a common goal in the end. However, there are some criticisms on bureaucracy like came up with their own version of management such as Scientific Management by Frederick W. Taylor, Administrative Management by Henri Fayol and Crap.

Bureaucratic Management:

Some other features of bureaucracy is:
• Rigid rules and regulations
• Hire and promote staff according to skills and performance only
• Extensive paperwork
• Employees and customers are treated equally
• Hierarchy of Authority
• Division of Labour

With these main features, bureaucracy has proved to be successful in organisations adopting this system both in the past and present as it well-suited for their type of organisation. It is unsuitable for an organisation who is always dealing with changes due to ‘Red Tape’. Red Tape refers
