“Make a difference about something other than yourselves.” this is a quote that was written by Toni Morrison, and it is very true. Making a great difference is something that people can be very good at. Across the world, many people struggle with being selfish, and sometimes say “I won’t help them” or “I won’t do this.” If you are like that, you can’t make a difference. You have to be willing to help and care for each other while doing what is right, no matter what is going on in your life. Making a difference relates to the story “Thank You Ma’am,” by Langston Hughes. Jones is tough towards the boy. This shows how she makes a difference in someone else 's life. For example, the story was explaining what she did to the boy, and said, “The woman simply turned around and kicked him right square in his blue-jeaned sitter. Then, she reached down, picked him up by his shirt front, and shook him until his teeth rattled.” Adding onto that, Mrs. Jones said in the beginning, “When I get through with you, sir, you are going to remember Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones.” This explains that, she basically threatened him and was acting like she was the big bad wolf with the boy. Also, she was trying to teach him a lesson not to steal people 's pocketbooks, and to do that, she had to be tough. Lastly, when she took him to her house, she was dragging him behind her. This demonstrates, that no one could mess with her, and if they did, it would get very dirty. This evidence shows that, in the beginning of the story, she is tough. Luella Bates Washington Jones is caring. This makes a difference on the boy 's life. An example of this is, she said, “You ought to be my son. I would teach you right from wrong. Least I can do right now is wash your face. Are you hungry?” To explain, she took the time when she wanted to make him food, and cared for him when she wanted him to be her son. Secondly, she said, “Let the water run until it gets warm,” she said. “Here’s a clean towel.” This showed she was caring because she used her own supplies to give to him. To add to this, she actually let him into her house. Meanwhile, this shows she is caring because she let him in, even when he was dirty.
