The ‘Malay Dilemma’ and the ‘Malaysian Dilemma’ are the concerns of Malay and Malaysian economic and political problems respectively. In ‘Malay Dilemma’, Tun Dato ' Seri Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad mentioned that the May 13 tragedy in 1969 happened because there are no real harmonies between the races in Tanah Melayu. The gap between the races widens when the British came in Tanah Melayu. The Malays live separately from the Chinese and the Indians. Most of the Malays lived in the village or in the countryside while the Chinese living in ore mines and in the big cities. He also mentioned that Malays is economically backward as compared to the other races. This is because the Arabs, Indians, and Chinese are slowly taking control the businesses in this country which was originally run by the Malays. Since we are living in a nation with diverse culture and races, we have to work together to maintain the harmony and peace among Malaysians. We should not incite others as it can cause dispute. If we living in a society that is always being jealous or envy of others, there is no way that the harmony and peace can be maintained. Next, we have to be open-minded and stop discriminating in all levels. We have to understand each other languages, cultures, and religions. We should visit neighbors or friends with different races during celebrations like Deepavali, Christmas and Hari Raya. This kind of activity can help us to understand people around us more without judging them. It is important that children and young people are educated and encouraged to learn about cultures and beliefs different to their own. This will promote an anti-discriminatory practice. There are many multi-cultural festivals and celebrations that happen in the UK. In school it is important that all children learn about these celebrations to educate them on other individual’s cultures, for example, Diwali, Hanukah, Christmas and Ramadan. This will give children an insight on others cultures and how they celebrate within their religion.
