• If the mango industry could share irradiation facilities with commodities with different harvest schedules, operational costs of the plants would be more economical because they could be used year-round. • While any quarantine treatment poses potential damage to mangos, partially ripe mangos showed no change in the rate of ripening after irradiation, researchers found. Since most fruit is shipped partially ripe, this treatment may be easier on the fruit than some other methods. • Expense, radiation dosage and potential fruit damage are indelibly linked. The larger the doses of radiation mangos receive, the less expensive it is because fruit can be treated in large batches. However, in order to get fruit in the center of the batch to the proper radiation levels, the fruit along the outside could receive two to six time higher dosages, which could cause damage. On the other hand, if pallets were to be disassembled and fruit was treated in boxes, the radiation dosage to the mango would be much smaller, but increased labor would make it much more

Vagrants camp is a vineyard primarily planted with Chenin blanc grape variation. Chenin blanc is a type of grape which is used to (i) produce white wine or (ii) blend with Sauvignon bland or Chardonnay to create a fresh zesty dry wine. Despite that the grapes were picked at 24.5 Brix, but because these grapes were used to produce cheap wine that was usually blended with other varieties, however this was not a major concern when compared to weight of the fruit. Another example is of a genetically modified tomato called flavor saver. The tomato is larger, tastier, and stays fresher longer than commercial tomatoes on the market. Combining conventional tomato genes with the genes of an arctic trout produces the flavor savor. Nevertheless, questions such as “Will people with seafood allergies be able to consume the tomato?” and “Will the trout genes in the tomato enable new bacteria growth, and thereby make the tomato hazardous to eat?” have still not been answered.

Bringing his experience from major US food and drug retailer, Safeway, White hoped to come up with a new strategic plan and direction for the company. However, the company faced many difficulties at the time: they had recently entered an area that was in direct competition with the likes of Starbucks and McDonalds, without the financial backing that those restaurants had.

Everyday food Abstract The article discusses the role of food as an instrument of identity and a channel of contact through cultures. This is discussed drawing from three cases of Italian food culture hybridization spanning from the early 20th century to the first decade of the 2000s: the role of Italian food in Italian-American identity as depicted in Leonardo Coviello’s work; the meeting of Southern and Northern food cultures following the Italian internal migrations in the ‘50s and ‘60s; the food practices of international migrants in the context of the global flows of people and commodities in present day Italy. In this regard, food plays an essential role in the rebuilding of a familiar context in which migrants can feel temporarily
