baton twirlers, the cheerleaders, the flag spinning, the marching band, the mascot, the Saluki shakers, and the last group of cheerleaders. There is an empty space between the last group and the coming cars. Anyway, it was good to have a minute to organize what I was able to write. The rain did not stop at all, it stopped raining for some minutes, but it started again. The Interim Chancellor, Dr. Brad Cowell passed driving a car, there is a couple in this car, I am not sure who they are; but I guess they are from the '65 class which is celebrating 50 years of their graduation. One of the reasons why I have attended this parade for these years is because of the candy that it is thrown to the children by people from these cars. Candy of …show more content…
The dragon was well designed and constructed. The next marching band was the Blackcats from Goreville, Illinois. The first group of this band was the flutes followed by the clarinets, the saxophones, the trumpets, trombones, and drums. What has called my attention from this marching band was that almost all the players are girls. There are 12 boys, and 20 girls in this band. Their uniform was also different from the two preceding bands, the Blackcats uniform has a more military style, with a turtle-neck, black and yellow jacket, and black pants. The SIUC Equestrian team was also in the parade, it was a group of people walking, some of them were wearing the same long-sleeve shirt. The next fraternity had made a cardboard castle; from one of the windows of this castle, the king and the queen of this fraternity were waving the crowds. The queen was wearing a very fancy gown, the king worn a button down shirt which he had rolled up its sleeves. The rest of the people in this truck were wearing outfits like kings and queens. A couple was cheering up very much to this fraternity, maybe they were part of this fraternity once, or they have their child on it because they were very enthusiastic when this fraternity passed, they also took some
Rush is a rock group made up of three members who reached the height of their careers in the early 1970’s when rock and roll was a nation wide trend. The group formed in 1968 in Toronto, Canada by Alex Lifeson and his two classmates, John Rusty and Jeff Jones. Unfortunately, Geddy Lee replaced Jeff Jones in lead vocals and Neil Peart replaced John Rusty as the lead drummer in the same year of their formation. The music styles Rush produces in their albums varies from progressive rock, modern rock, and synthesizer rock. Neil Peart was the lyricist for Rush and based his lyrics on true events and science fiction.
This label I’m most intrigued with is a subsidiary of Universal Music group known as Motown Records. Founded by Berry Gordy, the label was originally known as Tamla Records, but it changed its’ name after suggestions from the Ford assembly line. Now the title Motown fits the city that it was established in, Detroit, Michigan which is also known as the Motor City. Motown Records and its’ artists were influential in the integration of popular music and added soul and culture that had not been seen before. Significance can be found in the fact Motown Records wasn’t simply trying to achieve commercial success, but trying to tell their story and affect the community.
Motown records was instrumental to creating the vibe of the 60’s. It would produce many hit songs and create powerhouse music groups. It would also go on to shape the rock and roll genre as we know it today. In January of 1959 Berry Gordy would establish Motown Records with an $800 loan from his family and within a few years, would be producing some of the greatest hits of the time.
The Beastie Boys. Need I say more? When most think of the rambunctious rap group from that came straight out of the 1980’s, they think about girls, partying, crude humor and maybe some music in between. Although The Beastie Boys as a group did a few things that had never been done before in music history. Thats pretty incredible considering nobody expected something so revolutionary to come from three middle class white jewish kids from New York.
Motown is a well-known record corporation that was founded in the mid 1900’s. Motown has helped shape America due to its contributions since its founding. The corporation reshaped the music industry, signed and produced artist that would go on to become huge stars. Motown still has its fair share of action in today’s music industry. Motown is a living piece of history that has still remained relevant today.
It is extremely irritating when people do not recognize all the sports that are out there. Sure, there are a lot of them but if we can consider cheerleading a sport then I think that we can call marching band a sport. People do not understand why I am so easily annoyed when they diss this great sport. Marching band is the place where the intelligent students are.
Marching band; copious amounts of people scoff at the sound of those words. I often hear students commenting on how easy marching band is, how we don’t train like the football players do. At Anderson High School, that’s not the case, the marching band trains for just as long. As a band of over 125 individuals, it takes determination, pride, and confidence to achieve the goals we have set forth to accomplish. As a leader of the saxophone section, I know what it’s like to face failure, to overcome and turn it into success and to march on with confidence.
Marching band a sport? Many people would say that is a crazy idea while others may understand it completely. Marching band is playing a musical instrument while marching a certain way to a tempo. Marching band is a form of entertainment that competes at competitions against other marching bands. Myself, knowing what marching band is and how it works from personal experience, marching band should be considered a sport.
When you think of sports, marching band is not necessarily something that comes to mind but should definitely be included in the category of a sport. First, marching band fits the definition of a sport by being physically exerting and requiring skill. A marching band not only consists of band members that play instruments, but also include the color guard. The color guard is a section of the band that does not play an instrument but uses props, flags or other items to enhance the visual appeal of the performance. Most times they can do as much, if not more, work than the members that play instruments.
Easy to encounter, not so easy to overcome, failures claw at hopes and successes. They bring down those who are weak enough to let them in. They strengthen those that can get past them. I got past one that almost ruined my chances for new opportunities.
To the average person, the high school marching band is nothing more than a bunch of geeks that play during half time at the football games or monopolize the benches by the band hall, but to me, it is so much more. To me it is a family, a safe haven, a creative outlet, a home. I have been involved in marching band for three years, going on four, and I wouldn 't trade the experience for anything. When I entered high school as a scared and awkward freshman, I immediately had three hundred people that I could rely on. The program quickly became like a second home to me and opened up a whole new path in my life.
The Madison Scouts are the epitome of a marching band. The longest running “official” marching band in existence has a very long history. They however were and continue to be very successful in the drum corp world. Winning multiple world and DCI championships, The Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps continues to be the only strong male Drum Corp in existence. It was in the depression year of 1938 that a group of Madison, Wisconsin, businessmen attended a Racine Scouts performance and forthwith decided that Madison needed its own drum corps.
When watching the bands at ISU one that caught my eye was Prospect High School Marching Band performing their show In Shining Armour. The first part of the show started off with a flute solo which which I enjoy very much there were no major mistakes that i could tell from even if there were some mistake Emily would have told me or pointed out. The rest of band during the solo started adding a lot of visual elements but one part I didn't like is when they all started moving on their own which got me a bit confused but they were able to come back in time and were able to march in time .Then the figures are created on the field were very well constructed
Rock Out! Towards the end of eighth grade, that was the time that I learned what type of music I was interested in, and it was rock music. Thinking nothing of how ‘strange’ it may be, I was happy. All until I hit the middle of ninth grade where some kid heard me talking about some of my favorite bands. “Isn’t rock music for white people?
The invention of the rubber band by Englishman Stephen Perry in 1845 probably spawned an inquisitive smirk from a few ornery school-age kids. Logical that the first kid who shot one off his thumb across the classroom quickly realized how potentially fun this experience could be. While there is no record of the actual first gun, specialized to shoot these projectiles, the ideas on how to them airborne certainly sprang with the elasticity of a heavy gauge rubber band. Today there are assortments of rubber band guns, along with a few games to entertain both the eager child, plus the adult looking for an outlet to express his or her inner child. Rubber Band Guns
