The Life and Accomplishments of Marco Polo
I. “I have only told half of what I saw” were some of the final words of one of the first
Europeans to travel to Asia, the great Marco Polo. Marco, the son and nephew of merchants Niccolō and Maffeo, was born c. 1254 AD. He lived during the Middle Ages, and spent his childhood in Venice. When he was 6, the aforementioned family members left him for Russia to trade jewels. Marco’s mother died while they were gone and he lived with other members of his family until their return, when he was 16. Others that lived during his life included Osman I, St. Thomas Aquinas and Kublai Khan. Kublai is an especially important figure in Marco’s life since he was the emperor, or Khan, of the

While heading back to the capital, the Polo’s went through many regions. 1. They included: Afghanistan, Iran, Kafiristan, Hindu Kush, and other parts of the silk road. a. Marco got sick in Afghanistan so they stayed there for a year. F. They finally were back to the Mongol Capital in May 1275. 1. The Khan was pleased to get the oil.
IV. During Marco’s stay in China, Kublai Khan used Marco as an advisor and government official.
A. For three years, Marco served as a City Governor. 1. He governed Yang-Chou. a. Yang-Chou is just a little south of Shanghai. b. He called it “The most splendid and wonderful city in the world” 2. During his tenure, he travelled to Sri Lanka to retrieve Buddha’s tooth. a. He was able to receive the tooth, but it cost a ton of money. B. He traveled with the Khan to Khanbalik. 1. The Mongols’ were nomadic, so they changed their capital with the season. 2. Niccolō and Maffeo began trading with the native Chinese. a. They became quite wealthy from this.
V. After doing jobs for Kublai Khan for seventeen years, they were homesick and wanted to return to Venice.

The Mongolians are invariably associated with tales of bloodshed, death, and destruction. Their famed leader Genghis Khan, rose from poverty and united the Mongol tribes under him. He was a strong political and military leader who made advancements in the Mongol government and made many significant improvements to the administration system. For example, he created the Yassa, expanded the Silk Road and emphasized the importance of respect and loyalty. Genghis is most noted for conquering the most territory than any other single commander in the history of the world (Biography.com Editors, 2014).
One famous explorer during 1500-1600 was Francisco Vasquez De Coronado. He was one of many explorers from Spain. He resumed his post in Nueva, Galicia. Francisco Vasquez De Coronado was a famous explorer from Spain. He was serving a governor of an important province.
One of the famous Europeans explorer is Christopher Columbus. He born between October 31st 1450 and October 30th 1451, Genoa and died May, 20th 1506. He is one of the pioneer to explore the Americas. Columbus spent nearly thirty years to explore new territories. Most of the region was Americas.
Christopher Columbus as we know is the historical person credited for the discovery of the New World. Zheng He was a Hui-Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Each men and their fleets had two completely different reason for their travel. Christopher Columbus purpose was to find a new trade way to the Asian countries. Zheng He's purpose was to enlarge empires control of seaway trade.
Ferdinand and Isabella are people from the Renaissance they have completed many great accomplishments, and captured Reconquista, and they are monarchs who when they got married they created the Castile of Aragon. The marriage of cousins Ferdinand and Isabella eventually brought stability to both kingdoms. So because there religion they became known as the “ Catholic monarchs”. Ferdinand and Isabella both have great accomplishments. There greatest accomplishment is when they sponsored Christopher Columbus’ voyage in 1492 and United Spain largest kingdoms.
The Mongols reached broad extents of land, having four Khanates in Russia, Persia, Central Asia, and China, creating contacts with other parts of the known world(Document A). Because of this, public relations associating trade and commerce were set in motion. The Mongols traded among Asia and Europe for centuries during their establishment, and it was what initially led them to subdue China(Document I). While it is recognizable that the conquest of China was through terrorism, attaining that area opened numerous doors for commerce. As China was a treasure to travelers such as Marco Polo, the Great Khan Kubilai welcomed the traveler to bring Christians with him(Document H).
He first went to Egypt and Syria two places that seemed mysterious. Sometime between 1507 and 1508 he went to France. He met King Francis I. He came in contact with some member of the French Navy, and started to understand some of the Navy's missions.

He tried to sail west for years, but he never had enough money to. ¨He was so determined to fulfill his dream even though he could not afford to pay for such a trip.¨(Document #1) He was determined even though it seemed that he would never get to sail. There were many people who doubted him and said that he would never be able to sail, but he never gave up on his dream of sailing west, and finding Asia. It is a good thing that he didn 't give up.
Four hundred years helped mankind prepare for the next big steps to the next floor of the building of travel. Christopher Columbus was one of the sailors that traveled to America. Early on in his life he worked on small boats(“Christopher Columbus Facts.”). This gave him some experience before he made his own journeys on the sea. Christopher’s main goal for this voyage was to reach Asia for trading reasons.

Matteo Ricci, the leader of the Jesuits, aimed to convert members of the elite, who he hoped would then assist in spreading his religion among the Chinese people. The Jesuits were highly educated and served the Ming and Qing emperors as advisers, astronomers, cartographers, and painters, but they were generally unsuccessful in converting. They attempted to explain how the people can believe in both Confucian and Christian teachings.
