Although she received opposition, Margaret Sanger revolutionized women’s battle for reproductive rights in America.

Margaret Sanger was a nurse turned educator who opened the first US birth-control clinic. She was arrested for this, but eventually was legally allowed to open another clinic. Sangers made an enormous contribution to woman today. Her contributions allowed woman to gain some control over the decision of having children. She did this in a world where woman had very little rights. Due to her contribution woman no longer had to rely on the man to avoid becoming pregnant. There have been great strides since Sangers contributions, yet there is more work to be done. One of the main things that comes to mind is the fact that some insurances do not cover birth control. This is something that should be covered under all health insurance. This is a woman’s rights issue that still needs to be fought for.

Margaret Sanger, a feminist social reformer, argued that “women cannot be on equal footing with men until they have complete control over their reproductive functions”. Her argument improved our everyday life by providing more information on contraceptives, giving women the power to control their bodies, and changing the role of women and men. Margaret Sanger was determined and dedicated to provide women with information about contraceptives which eventually improved the lives of many women.

Margaret Sanger once said that "no woman can call herself free who does not own and control her own body.” Margaret Sanger was widely regarded as the founder of the modern birth control movement. For her, birth control was vital in the fight for women’s equality. Sadly, that fight is still valid today.

Margaret Sanger was a famous nurse during the early 1900's whose contributions remain today . Margaret was born September 14, 1879 in Corning New York. Margaret at the time was named Margaret Louise Higgins. Margarets father Michael Hennessey Higgins studied medicine but worked instead as a stone cutter (Steinman, 1998). Her mother was what inspired to become a nurse and focus on women's health and reproduction. Margarets' mother Anne Higgins had been pregnant eighteen times in her life with only eleven of them being successful (Katz, 1995). Anne Higgins died at age forty-nine which Margaret blamed on the toll the multiple pregnancies had on her mother body. Margret Sanger was born on September 14,1879 in Corning, New York. She worked as a nurse and developed a desire to help women who were suffering from unwanted pregnancies. She started touring around to educate women and she also started a feminist publication called the Woman Rebel. This magazine caused Margret to potentially face five-years in prison so to avoid that she moved to England. In October 1915 she returned to the U.S and continued to advocate for women 's rights to birth control. Sanger opened the first birth control clinic but it only stayed open for nine days. She then was arrested along with her sister and staff. The were charged with breaking the Comstock Law that made it illegal to sell or distribute materials used for Abortion.
