In the story “The Adventure of the Speckled Band”, Sherlock Holmes is not responsible for the death of Dr. Grimbsy Roylott. The theme of Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli is, be yourself. Stargirl changed herself for others even though she wasn’t happy about it. Stargirl was changing herself just so others would want to be her friend, “What do you have to do to get somebody’s attention around here?”(139) My first quote is happy, “She roamed from goal post to goal post. She swirled like a dust devil” (22).

After reading, “Woman Warrior,” by Maxine Hong Kingston, she wrote and I quote, “Even as her hair lured her imminent lover, many other men looked at her. Uncles, cousins, nephews, brothers would have looked, too, had they been home between journeys. (pg.10).” Relating to gender stereotypes this is an example of how a woman's beauty has more of an effect than her actual intelligence. She is only noticed for her looks and her hair.

It is hard to tell what is true and not true in a novel, especially when the author says, “Often the crazy stuff is true and the normal stuff isn't, because the normal stuff is necessary to make you believe the truly incredible craziness” (68). The character Mary Anne Bell was too crazy for this novel though. The most unrealistic characters in The Things They Carried is Mary Anne Bell because she went to the war as a civilian not a soldier, embodies the theme loss of innocence, and there are other character that feel the same loss. There are many events that take place that makes Mary Anne an implausible character. The whole reason that she comes to Vietnam is that she is visiting her boyfriend, and not even the other soldiers believe Rat

In my opinion Linton has no say in what happens to him. The story takes place during the early 1800's in England. During this period a man was considered to be master of his house. Healthcliff has a legal right to with with his son as he pleases. Anyone and everything living on his land or under his roof is considered to be his property.
Whenever the novel discusses Miss Stein, it typically portrays her as being a teacher for Hemingway. Some examples of this include how she tends to give Hemingway her opinions on what to read in order to advance his literature, some words of advice how to live a meaningful life or advice on his current state of writing when she says "it is inaccrochable." (pg 25) Her definition of inaccrochable is best explain through the example she provides the audience which is "it is like a picture that a painter paints and then he cannot hang it when he has a show." (pg 25)
