The Marine Park Ordinance was latter passed to protect and address the limited conservation efforts of marine life and water bodies that are very important to Hong Kong .This ordinance became effective on the month of June, 1995 (AFCD, 1995).the Agricultural and fisheries conservation department (AFCD) was granted management rights to the marine park. The marine park is also responsible for protection of coastal areas or areas examined to be of significant value the AFCD restricts interaction that would cause degradation in the four marine areas currently available through the help of the Marine Park Ordinance. Activities such as fishing are only allowed in certain areas of the marine park for recreational purposes. Constrains and limitations in ecotourism in Hong Kong.
Ecotourism is described as a time wasting activity, due to Hong Kong residentsbeing busy catering for their livelihoods. Insufficient time has been regarded by residents as one of the major factors leading to low participation in ecotourism. Hong Kong residents have less time to spend on leisure activities and if free, they prefer staying indoors and participating in activities such as watching movies.
The government and the NGOs have promoted and educated the citizens of Hong Kong on their natural environment and ecotourism although it has not been enough to convince them hence not effective. The establishment of the Geopark was followed by intensive promotion by the government through TV advertisements, internet and the publishing of smartphone apps. This was however not an advantage to as the strategy failed since many people only knew where the Geopark was but not the details. Many visitors who visit the area are not aware there are in part of the Geopark and the main reason is due to the lack of detailed information on the area.
