This study is essentially anchored to the Prism of Linguistic Theory of Jacques Lacan stated that Linguistics analyzes human language as a system for relating sounds (or signs in signed languages) and meaning. Phonetics studies acoustic and articulatory properties of the production and perception of speech sounds and non-speech sounds. The study of language meaning, on the other hand, deals with how languages encode relations between entities, properties, and other aspects of the world to convey, process, and assign meaning, as well as to manage and resolve ambiguity. While the study of semantics typically concerns itself with truth conditions, pragmatics deals with how context influences meanings

In this case, ME becomes the only means of communication. Maritime English is the language systematically used to make communication possible between the students that are not sharing a mother tongue. In the essay “Newfoundlandese, If You Please,” Diane Mooney argues Newfoundland is made up of many different dialects dependent on what region you are in. She backs up her claims by sharing her observations and experiences from her travels throughout the province. In the essay printed by Pearson, Toronto Mooney believes that the different dialects are because of the various nationalities of the early settlers. Mooney also believes that different religious beliefs found in the region contribute to the dialect disparities.

The idea of the United States having Puritan origins is still alive today. In Sarah Vowell’s, The Wordy Shipmates, the topic of how a nation affiliates itself with Puritan perspectives is introduced. She encourages one to look beyond the surface information of the first English settlers’ motives in the 1600s, and to investigate what Puritan views truly are. She mentions the Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony, John Winthrop, expressing his freedom to enforce his religious views on to a whole colony of people. The superiors of this religious group decided in the colonies what was appropriate for the society they are creating.
In Dennis Baron’s article, “Who Owns Global English?”, the author addresses the way English is being adapted around the world as well as why some countries wish to put a stop to it. This is centrally focused around a campaign for Spanish-English schools in Madrid hosting the slogan “yes, we want.” All languages change as the number of speakers grows; the English language is no different. Baron provides several examples of this growth from “Engrish” to slogans such as the one used in Madrid (36). Most notably however the author talks about the different kinds of English already in existence.
The most likely constituents for the Mystic Seaport organization are the people that use the docking ports in the area or live in the area, those who are interested in maritime activities, and those who are interested in learning about and maintaining the historical aspects of America’s seafaring past. I believe that these would be the best constituents to seek donations from because they would all have an avid interest in maintaining the Mystic Seaport in operating conditions and to continue to grow in other aspects. For example, the people that live within the area and who use the seaport for personal use would have an interest in maintaining Mystic Seaport because it provides a constant income for the area as well as keeping the interest
By publicly humiliating the concept of MagnaSoles, the mock press release from The Onion establishes credibility and utilizes colloquial language in order to satirize how products are marketed to society. In order for the mock press to gain the audience’s attention, a false sense of credibility is established through “knowledgeable” diction choices and connotations. Such scientific diction is displayed as the article describes how the MagnaSoles “soothe the wearer’s feet using no fewer than five forms of pseudoscience.” The particular term, “pseudoscience,” adheres to the audience in a false matter as it is regarded as a highly “complex” term in its nature and meaning-- thus persuading the audience about the true reliability of the soles.

Throughout generations cultural traditions have been passed down, alongside these traditions came language. The language of ancestors, which soon began to be molded by the tongue of newer generations, was inherited. Though language is an everlasting changing part of the world, it is a representation of one’s identity, not only in a cultural way but from an environmental standpoint as well. One’s identity is revealed through language from an environmental point of view because the world that one is surrounded with can cause them to have their own definitions of words, an accent, etc. With newer generations, comes newer forms of languages.
