Thinking back to the Civil Rights movement that went on for fifteen years this tragic event can be compared to that. Mike Brown is the modern day Emmitt till, the six little girls burned in the church, and Trayvon Martin combined into one. The events that happened soon after arguably changed the lives of Ferguson citizens forever. Ferguson citizens was justified in their response due to the death of Mike Brown, police brutality, and the results of the indictment. The main cause of the riots that took place in Ferguson is the fact that Mike Brown was brutally gunned down by a white police office while he was unarmed and hands up.
London riots came to the crisis to London communities, and they persist to be a crucial issue to the London governments. The Impact of the Detroit Race Riot on Society Just imagine you are in the streets of Detroit in 1967. There are fires blazing all around you, people are being shot ruthlessly and police are using heavy force to stop the rioters. That is how the people of Detroit felt during one of the most deadly events in Detroit history. Some people even thought it was the start of a second revolution, This is a quote from Jeffrey Eugenides. “ In Detroit, in July of 1967,what happened was no less than a guerrilla uprising.
During N.W.A.’s reign, civil unrest was rising as instances of police brutality against African Americans rose. N.W.A. provided a voice for all of the people who could not be heard during the tumultuous times of the Los Angeles Riots. The members of the group were able to express all of the complex emotions felt during these times through their music. While the Los Angeles Riots rocked California in the early 90s, police brutality has yet again caused civil unrest in places like Ferguson, Missouri.
A topic that is particularly interesting to me, and has people in outrage across the country. It is all the controversy over killing of minorities by police officers since 2012 have had people on edge waiting to get back to rioting or voicing their opinions. The black live matter protest/movement in my opinion sparks a racial debate that will never end, but hopefully will end in a positive manner. It is interesting to me because I still cannot understand how the human race a part of the world, and our country can be so volatile, hostel, hateful, and rioting in the streets. But when it comes to a time where people are needed to assist and protect one another, it is for the most part non existent.
Thousands of newspapers and television displayed the horrors of the war causing protests in the US. Most importantly My Lai massacre which killed approximately 504 innocent women, children, and men who were allegedly Viet Congs. This revelation shocked the whole world especially the US. Additionally, Viet Congs were supported by other countries such as China, Russia, as well as neighboring countries near Vietnam that helped them transport supplies through the Ho Chi Minh trail, unlike the US who also lost the support of its own people and
Murder? And he practically walks away with a slap on the wrist? This tragedy and many more that followed sparked the movement of national protests and social media hashtags such as #BlackLivesMatter. Police are not being held accountable for their killings of unarmed people of color. Police are also unfairly targeting blacks.
This city needed a their attention to be drawn to a problem that many people face. Due to the riots here in Baltimore, when one is asked where they live and they respond “Baltimore city,” they are judged right away because of what they saw on national television. Judged as if everyone was part of the riots. Those riots hurt our city deeply. Properties set on fire were always on a different news stations across the country.
Racial profiling is the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based off of race, religion, ethnicity, or national origin. All across America there are examples of this. Most recently the Black Lives Matter movement has erupted in America, bringing to the public’s attention the issue of racial profiling. As a result of racial profiling people have died and started riots. This issue has also come to the point of people committing suicide for their cause.
In recent news reports, numerous cases of police brutality resulting in the death of unarmed citizens frequently occur. The cases describe similar incidents in which authorities racially profile citizens and proceeds to approach the citizen in an unlawful manner. An altercation escalates between the two when the citizen attempts to resist the police’s unlawful arrest. Police use excessive force against the citizen to make the citizen abide by their commands. Use of excessive force leads to the death of the citizen.
This outraged the community causing a crowd of about angry demonstrators to to march around City Hall, bang on the windows, and even start car fires. They were shouting about having Mayor Dianne Feinstein fired from her job and shouting in remembrance of Harvey Milk. Multiple people were injured during this riot. After the verdict, people such as District Attorney Joseph Freitas Jr. were apologizing for the jury’s decisions. The jury could not be sure whether Whites mental state influenced his actions or if he just decided to shoot them on his own.
These events made the Blacks realize we are hurting our comment and need to stop. All of those events lead up to the city realizing what damage they did to the community. During the time when Arthur McDuffie was beat to his death by Dade county police officers, an event of riots broke out in Dade county, these deadly events created very bad damage to the black community and caused more racial conflict in the community. In the future of the topic there would still be police brutality and killings of blacks by law enforcements. As you can see the incident that happened in Baltimore recently.
