In Andy Weir’s novel The Martian, protagonist Mark Watney attributes his survival to his crew, who selflessly returns to Mars to save him. The concept of the importance of unity as a result of comradery reoccurs throughout the novel. Even before leaving for Mars, NASA hired psychologists who put efforts into motion to insure that the Ares 3 crew felt a sense of harmony among themselves. Watney recalls that “Thanksgiving was going to happen and NASA's shrinks thought it would be good for us to make a meal together. Not just eat it, but to actually prepare it. There’s probably some logic to that,” proving that even the mental health scientist promoted bonding efforts within the group (Weir .21). The Ares 3 crew did manage to build strong …show more content…
The crew underwent difficult training, travel, and exploration that no one else had done before. As a result, the crew had a unique bond with each other that they would never share with anyone else. This exclusive friendship was so strong, that it led the entire crew to unanimously decide to spend another year returning to Mars to save Watney. It was because they had close relationships with Watney, that the Ares 3 crew preformed the selfless and heroic action of rescuing him. While returning to Earth, Watney accepts the fact that he was saved by the combined efforts of people of who care about him. Weir’s point is made clear that unity is fundamental for survival. Watney would not have survived on Mars if it were not for the selfless efforts of his crew; therefore, the Ares 3 team proved that unity is a distinguished necessity …show more content…
However, the consensus was not easy to reach. Commander Lewis told the crew that ““we’ll only do it if we all agree. And before you answer, consider the consequences,”” there were many ways that the rescue mission could have gone wrong, and the team knew that if they messed up the supply rendezvous or the Earth gravity assist, they would die (Weir. 211). Additionally, they understood that saving Watney would require five hundred and thirty- three additional days of unplanned space travel that could also prove perilous. It would also mean that from start to finish, their mission would last over one thousand days. Yet, Ares 3 is a team of superb unity, and they each had such strong emotional attachments to Watney, that they unanimously decided that saving him was worth the risk. The sense of unity within Ares 3 was profound, not only did the members individually decide to save Watney, but they also reached that consensus as a group. The strong relationships within the Ares 3 team provided them with a profound sense of unity, which led them to selflessly over rule NASA’s plan, and return to Mars to save Mark
Have you needed a specific trait to survive a horrible or terrifying experience? These three people have survived horrific events throughout their lives. Hyenseo Lee survived from escaping North Korea, Aron Ralston had his hand stuck under a rock for one hundred twenty-seven hours, and Rick Grimes survived a zombie apocalypse. The traits that these people had when they went through these tragic events were determination with Hyenseo Lee, intelligence for Aron Ralston, and leadership for Rick Grimes.
Like the other members of the group, he knows how to overcome challenges. For example, Josh has balanced the demanding responsibilities of being a starting quarterback for an SEC team, taking rigorous engineering courses, and being a member of the Chancellor’s Honors Program. If he can lead the Volunteers to victory, he can surely manage the task of colonizing a new planet. His proven discipline and leadership will serve to be an important asset to the group. Also, after colonizing the planet we will need a media to deliver our discoveries back to earth.
To have a strong-minded team you have to show a lot of emotion so they know that you’re understanding and boost team morale(Shakespeare). Using emotion, he tells his troops that their bond is as strong as brotherhood by stating that “we in it shall be remembered- [w]e few, we happy few, we band of brothers.” Furthermore. that statement implies that they will be remembered, and through those afflictions, they had the bonds of brothers.
Dennis Nedry and John Hammond wanted to get rich, while Sal wanted to see her mother; however all wanted to complete their mission no matter what it takes. Dennis Nedry was experienced with the computer, and was one of the computer programmers for Jurassic Park. A reader must know this to understand what role he played in Jurassic Park. The book states, “Nedry had mumbled about doing computers on the island.” (Crichton)
He then explains, "'There will be more shuttle flights and more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in space. Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue.' " this could tell the reader about how just because this event happened it will not stop them from making

When you think of searching for something your mind would automatically go to looking for an object. But that’s not always true, for example searching for love, accomplishments, and new ideas could also be a search. In the book Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell, Marcus has some of these internal searches. So far in the book Marcus has successfully made it through BUD/s training and is now on a mission in the mountains of Afghanistan where they get in a conflict with an army.
Their journey was successful in the end and without the decision to look for help, everybody would have died in the mountains. Although some decisions were controversial to the media the survivors critical decisions that saved their lives in the end. When they crashed the one of the first things they did was try to find a solution to the harsh weather conditions. They soon realized that if they bundled together in the plane with each other and all the clothes that they had then they could make it through the night. I notice that when I am involved in any situation that requires a quick solution you must think about your priorities.
The Ares 3 Crew in The Martian plays a crucial role in the story. The commander on the mission, Melissa Lewis, led her crew through all the tough challenges nd obstacles with the fortitude of an undying commander. She stuck with them through everything and risked her life multiple times for her crewmates.
As well, figurative language in his speech showed the passion and bravery the astronauts had. “As they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and ‘slipped the surly bonds of earth’ to ‘touch the face of god’” (8). His use of personification justifies to all citizens that the journey that turned into a disaster was not their last. It was only the beginning for them.
During Apollo 13, there was an explosion that caused them to barely make it back to Earth. During our space unit in 5th grade, we watched the movie Apollo 13. Now, I know more about the commander of Apollo 13. Others who also watched Apollo 13 have a connection to James Lovell as well. In this mission, he had to persevere and keep trying
In the novel Michael Vey, Richard Paul Evans conveys the idea of friendship and fidelity in the midst of the book through the unyielding bonds created and withheld. Within the story, Michael Vey, and his omnipotent team do not cease to vanquish their seditionist, Admiral Hatch and his army with despicable plans to utterly change the people of the world... and not for the better. Michael and his friends perpetually remain faithful to one another, even when they could easily turn their backs and return to a "normal" life. Though many times the "Electroclan" (what they called themselves) had multiple rendezvous with death, the team wouldn 't give up, and fought to save not only themselves but each other. "Suicide or not, I have to try to save
He begins speaking about the disastrous occasion that was Apollo 1. Three astronauts were killed as a result of a cabin fire in 1967, but NASA has never experienced a calamity like this before. He mourns their loss, but also raises up their names in praise. “Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we’ve never lost an astronaut in flight; we’ve never had a tragedy like this.
1. Identify one character in the film that demonstrated poor teamwork skills. Describe the situation. In the movie, "Remember the Titans," there were multiple characters who demonstrated poor teamwork abilities, as well as a partnership when being assorted into pairs with another race; or when being a whole football team. For instance, a primary example of this could be demonstrated by the character of Gerry; as he had a strong dislike when he was put into a black and white football team.

However, the prevailing lens which could be used to describe experiences in my life is a conflict lens. In this paper, I will explain the main influences on my lens which include, growing up in a working-class family which created my perception of work values. Similarly, joining the defence force has developed my lens to focus on the importance of being a cohesive team even if there is a hierarchy of control.
