Symbolism is one of the many literary devices used in this novel to help emphasize the author’s main idea or central message.. I have been playing basketball since I was in 5th grade. When I went to middle school, I was selected by the district basketball team. I intended to attend every practice because I really did enjoy playing basketball. When I entered 8th grade, there was a tournament amongst all the 8 districts in ShenZhen, the city in which I lived. I considered the tournament as a precious opportunity for me to prove my efforts.
When I first started to play organized basketball, I was in the first grade. My family had always been involved in basketball. They all played, shared their talents and skills, and were successful on the court. As I grew up, I spent countless hours in the gym, playing and watching basketball.
This poem is very meaningful to me, which is why I recited it, and therefore wanted to create a poetic response to it. I was inspired to write this poem not only by Kobe Bryant though, but also incorporated some of Muhammad Ali’s ideas into it too, as I am intrigued by some of his ideas. More specifically, I wanted to include a paraphrased version of his quote: “I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion’ ”. Literally, my poem describes my basketball career, with the main focus on varsity basketball and my experience at the Big 8 tournament, and how it relates to the common exercise motto: “No pain, no gain”.

If there are any criticisms for this book it would stem from the over utilization of the spotlight placed on 5’3 guard Bogues. Bogues who became a Perennial superstar in the NBA, definitely deserved praise, however, Danois may have “ran the well dry” by continuously placing the limelight on Bogues with stories such as “When the fans saw “Mugsy” announced during the starting lineup, snickers and laughter came raining down from the stands” (3:45-3:46) and then Bogues would continue to show the crowd how good he was and he would always earn their respect. That story seemed to repeat itself throughout the narrative and began
Since picking up “The Rock” seven years ago, I’ve come to love basketball, and it’s given me experiences, skills and values emanating beyond the game itself. Whenever I’m feeling stressed, shooting a few hoops with my little sister at the park is a surefire way to relax and have fun. From weight training to running liners, basketball has helped me develop discipline and an appreciation for teamwork. Furthermore, basketball has been my medium to travel across the globe and even take a photo with UMich star Jamal Crawford. From Memorial Day weekend tournaments in downtown San Francisco to spontaneous pick-up games with local high school athletes in Okayama, Japan, time and time again, basketball has transcended language and culture, allowing

When Joseph Campbell, an American mythologist, explicitly states,”A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself,” he represents the significance of the unreplicable impact of Superheroes in our lives and the irresistible power of bravery a hero has. Even though we are highly influenced from the qualities of our superheroes, we neglect the acknowledgment of the advancement of developing these qualities. Heroes like Theseus, obtain their considerable success by the use of his or her determination, and they alter our determination to be our better selves. Because of their exhilarating but successful feats, Superheroes inspire us to improve on ourselves by supplying us hope during helpless times, and educating us about the right and wrong. First and foremost, the hope of our people when drastic times come with drastic measures is obtained because of the presence of superheros in our literature.
Heroes, they are people who help or protect others from danger or problems while sacrificing themselves. Heroes can help large groups of people or only a few specific people who desperately are in need of some type of leader to help their cause. For instance, Sojourner Truth is an example of hero because she strove for abolishment of slavery and having more rights for women. To first start the whole process of ending slavery and creating gender equality, Truth had to escape slavery since her father was a slave, thus having Truth being born into a slave. Escaping from slavery was a risky action to take considering the fact that Sojourner Truth would have been severely punished.
President Abraham Lincoln once said, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power” (Abraham Lincoln). In other words, Lincoln is saying that to truly see who a person is, you have to give him power to see their true character. Anyone can pretend to be a certain way, but once they have power they show who they really are. When Lincoln was given power his true character of being a heroic man came out. Lincoln is a hero because during his presidency he freed the slaves, united the country and wrote many inspiring speeches.
