Throughout my past four years at Weddington High School, I am inspired by the impact my teachers have given me. I believe education is the greatest gift you can give to a person who is striving to make a difference. This is something that I have been interested in for several years. I am currently a teacher assistant for Mrs. Donna Nunn’s Microsoft Word and PowerPoint class that allows me to see how lesson plans are carried out in a classroom environment and I know that this experience has given me a stronger desire to become a teacher. During my freshman year of high school, Ms. Marisa DiFronzo made literature become a very engaging subject for me, not only by her way of teaching but also her ability to bring the class together as one.
A study was conducted at the University of Alabama at Birmingham by Lois McFadyen Christensen, PhD, and three educators at Bluff Park Elementary School. The second grade teacher, the reading coach, and the kindergarten teacher studied the effects of a deconstructed social studies curriculum using modified Reggio Emilia approach. This means that the environment is highly democratic, all classroom members are learners, and parents are actively involved and present in the learning environment. Relationships and interaction is very important in a Reggio Emilia classroom. The class serves as an active part of learning and documents that learning is happening at all times.

I graduated college with a teaching degree and I got a job teaching with the Dubuque Community School District. My favorite part of my job was working with kids and helping them learn. I didn’t hate anything about it. When I was 23 I got married and had two kids, Maddison (Maddie for short) and Max, who are twins. My husband was a football player and my kids went to Sageville Elementary School, then Jefferson Middle School, then Hempstead High School.
It would be remiss of me to try and write about the adversities I have faced as a high school student attending Blythewood High School, without first reflecting on the many blessings I have been awarded. I attend a wonderful school with some of the best teachers in South Carolina who provide quality education and the tools that I must use to succeed in any field of life. I was also fortunate enough to grow up in a nuclear household with two educated parents who were able to help me with anything that I lacked in, whether that may be hiring a tutor for me or sitting at the kitchen table late at night to help me finish my homework. The adversities that I have faced are miniscule in comparison to some of the students that I sit right next to in class, but I have had my share of difficulties too. I remember starting my freshman year at Blythewood High School thinking about all the changes that I would have to face, transitioning from Kelly Mill Middle School to this large campus in this little town of Blythewood.
