Everyone knows or has heard of the first time an American ‘Glenn’ orbited the earth on February 20 1962. But there were many things that happened in order for all of that to be pulled off. There were a lot of workers from NASA that put some effort into making that possible. When someone thinks of NASA, and who helped into sending the first American to orbit the earth, many of those who worked hard for this mission weren’t fully giving the recognition for it. When someone thinks about that mission many are going to think, ‘just some guys all working together for this’ but in reality it wasn’t just some guys. There were three strong women who had a big participation on making this mission possible.
One of those people or participants that participated in plan of orbiting the Earth, was Mary Jackson. Mary Jackson was born on April 9, 1921, in Hampton VA, she graduated from an all-black George P. Phenix training school. She earned a bachelor's degree from Hampton

Katherine was born on August 26,1918, in White Sulphur Spring, WV. She graduated with a B.S in mathematics, and french from West Virginia state college in 1937. Katherine had became a teacher but then got out, and she enrolled herself into a graduate math programs, but she soon decide to leave it behind to start a family with her husband so she went back to teaching when her daughters were a little older. But one day one of her relatives told her that there was an open position in the all-black West Area Computing section at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics Langley laboratory which is NASA. Katherine was hired at NASA on June 1953. Kathrine provided a whole lots of math for the 1958 on documented notes on space technology. Kathrine was then asked to help in the orbital mission for John Glenn, for which she provide a lot of math for it, and in my opinion if it wasn’t for her they wouldn’t have full made the orbit, or even get the shuttle out of the
Following her graduation, she moved to Cornell Medical School- obtaining her Doctorate in Medicine. After her graduation, she did several things before applying to NASA- she became an intern for Los Angeles County Medical Center, practiced general medicine, and then joined the Peace Corps, serving as a medical officer in Africa. When inspirational Sally Ride became the first American woman in space in 1983, Jemison quickly decided to apply for the astronaut program at NASA. However, shortly after her application, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded- therefore, resulting in NASA taking a break from hiring.
She began teaching at age 14 and even found a school for girls, the Dix Mansion. It was a school for girls who didn’t have the money to go to a school and allowed them to attend for free. She even wrote textbooks and her book Conversations on Common
Most people know the first man to set foot on the moon, but do you know the first American to orbit the Earth? That man was John Glenn. John Glenn was a very important and significant man within the NASA program , “Project Mercury”. Glenn had many great accomplishments in his lifetime and played a crucial role in the advancement of american space exploration. John Glenn was born on July 18,1921 in Cambridge Ohio.
There are many wonderful people in history, one of those people are Jacqueline Cochran. She had a few jobs but she felt that they were not the ones that she desired the most. She was first to do something, and what she did was something that is inspiring to us. Jacqueline Cochran was a person. She was born in West Florida circa in 1906.
With the astronauts on the “moon”, Richard Nixon speaks with Neil Armstrong and tells him that he is proud of them and that this is a defining moment in American history and this will go down as one of the greatest feats in United States history. The sole thing that will help determine whether or not the greatest space achievement in human history is true or false is time. With time, we will be able to fully explain what happened on July 20,

When she was growing up, she went to San Francisco 's Elite Katherine Branson School for Girls. Her mother was worried that she would never marry because she was always the tallest in her class at 6 feet 3 inches. Which did give her an advantage, because of her interests. She loved to play golf, tennis, loved to hunt, and much more. She always got into trouble because she was a prankster.
On January 28th, 1986, Ronald Reagan, the president of the United States at the time, in his speech, entitled “Challenger Disaster,” addressed the Challenger Disaster. He supported this claim by first mourning over the tragedy, then he promoted NASA, also he tried to make sense of this calamity, and finally he informed the audience that the seven astronauts will never be forgotten and as a country we will be forever thankful for their service. Through Reagan’s use of tone, rhetorical analysis, and rhetorical tools he effectively persuaded America to mourn and appreciate the lives of the seven astronauts loss and to convince American people to continue their support for NASA and move forward as a country. Reagan unified America with his supportive
Jemison is 60 years old and is currently alive. She now supports and works for the 100 year starship which is a program that does advanced research projects for astrophysics and space engineering. In conclusion she achieved her dream of reaching space and touching the stars but but has never stopped wanting to touch the stars. She has grown up being appressed, gone to several colleges, earned many degrees, been the first woman to be accepted into the space program, benn the first african american women to be in space, won many awards and and have been honored in many ways. She has lived a full and successful
Opening up her students minds to think for themselves and not what other people what them to know or learn. Teaching the smartest young women in the country was something Katherine always wanted to do and she did leaving the signature behind. Become who you want to be and not what other want you
Dorothy Vaughan, a mathematical engineer who paved the way for many to later follow at NASA as well as in the world we live in today. Dorothy Vaughan was an African-American mathematical engineer who was born on September 20, 1910 in Kansas City, Missouri. Although this being her hometown, she later moved to Morgantown, West Virginia where she would graduate from Beechurst high school in 1925. Four years following her graduation, Dorothy received a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University which was located in Ohio. Shortly after Dorothy Vaughan, who was Dorothy Johnson at the time, married Howard Vaughan in 1932.
Everyone knows about the Apollo 11 flight and John Glenn, but no one knows about who was behind the calculations of it all. Without her and the work of many other mathematicians the mission would have never happened. John Glenn trusted Katherine with his life, as her calculations had to perfect for him to come back alive and the mission to be successful. I also thought about what would have happened if Katherine never went to work at NASA. She was the only one out of all of the people working there that knew how to do the complex equations that were needed.
He begins speaking about the disastrous occasion that was Apollo 1. Three astronauts were killed as a result of a cabin fire in 1967, but NASA has never experienced a calamity like this before. He mourns their loss, but also raises up their names in praise. “Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we’ve never lost an astronaut in flight; we’ve never had a tragedy like this.

I have been enjoying the songwriting class so far, as I have got exposure to many songwriters’ interviews as well as their great hits. For the purpose of the final project, I will pick Michael Jackson and discuss his life and career.
