How do you make a dead baby float? One cup of root beer and two scoops of dead baby. Although death can be disturbing and isn’t something that is normally joked about, there are people out there who enjoy killing others, usually in messed up ways. Many times, these people are serial killers. The FBI defines a serial killer as “someone who kills two or more victims in separate events.”
There are some serial killers who never get caught. Turn of the century killer Jack the Ripper is a famous example. Between 1888 and 1891 an unidentified man preyed on impoverished prostitutes in the East End of London; brutally killing them and butchering their bodies. There are dozens of theories about who he might have been but no-one was ever arrested for the murders.
Have you ever wanted to know what it feels like to have a serial killer on the loose? The Zodiac is a serial killer that terrorized all of California, and he claimed to have taken the lives of many innocent civilians through the letters he sent. While his identity remains unsolved to this day, investigators have many theories as to who it might have been. Although plenty of people believe the identity of the Zodiac Killer is Arthur Leigh Allen, others are convinced it is a few lesser-known suspects. Even though the Zodiac’s identity is still uncertain to this day there are some truths that investigators have confirmed.
He’s killed a lot of innocent people and if he wasn’t put away for life he would of kept killing. He was known for being an unusual child and after his arrest he is famously known for his killing spree and how brutally he murdered his victims. He did go to jail, received his punishment and ended up being murdered in prison. Dahmer was known as the “"Milwaukee Cannibal” because he would eat and rape his victims. Jeffrey Dahmer will always be known for his gruesome
The Zodiac killer is one of the most wide-spread killers in our nation. People have claimed that they know who the Zodiac killer is several times, but there has been no factual proof that a single person is the Zodiac. To this day, the Zodiac Killer remains one of the most incomprehensible and brutal cases in the United States. The mystery behind who the Zodiac Killer is can be summed up in two theories: Arthur Leigh Allen and Ted Kaczinki. To start with, Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday, the first known Zodiac victims, was just a step for the infamous killer to come to light.
The distinct difference between a mass murderer and a serial killer is one of motive. Mass murderers kills for a specific reason i.e. revenge, gang violence, cover ups. Serial killers usually kill strangers for a sexual or empowering desire. Most serial killers are heterosexual but some (“Killer Clown” John Wayne Gacy was bisexual and William Bonin, “The Freeway Killer” Nilsen, and Dahmer were homosexual. Psychologist Dr. Joel Morris has distinguished 7 phases to a serial killer’s activity “(1) Aura--day dreams and fantasies.

The term “serial killer” strikes fear and curiosity into the minds of people; therefore, scientist and medical researchers should look more in depth into the psychology and illnesses of a serial killer rather than their actions alone. A serial killer is an individual who murders three or more people over a period of time typically to fulfill a motive. These motives typically come from past experiences that caused some sort of trauma. Since 1980 there has been an estimated amount of one hundred fifty four serial killers world wide with eighty seven in the United States.
Not all serial murderers kill for the same reason or in the same way, a lot of them leave behind a “signature” which is something that a killer leaves at a crime scene, or does to a person, that signals that this is them who committed the crime, and often is done to play out a fantasy that the killer has. Along with the special “signature,” not all killers kill for the same reasons, there are types and labels for different types of serial killers, such as: psychopathic sexual sadists, crime spree killers, mission serial killer, and many more (Miller, Serial Killers: I. Subtypes, Patterns, and Motives,
The motive behind the killing of a human being is a complex one (Freeman, 2007). It has been studied for years, trying to answer the question of “why” (Freeman, 2007). Considered America’s first serial killer, H. H. Holmes broke the mold when it came to criminal profiling of a serial killer (H.H. Holmes, 2004). He tortured, murdered, and dismembered his victims in ways that were not seen before (H.H. Holmes, 2004). Why did he chose this route?
Types and Motivations of Serial Killers A large portion of serial killers are sexually motivated (DeFronzo et al. ,2007). There are other motivations of why serial killers pick their victims and commit their murderess act. As stated before sexual pleasure is usually the main motivation of serial killers, but there are also motivations of money, power/control, directive from a higher power or hallucinations, or to gain a certain benefit that they believe only their victims can give them.
Throughout the years, people have visually examined mass murders and wondered at how an individual or a group of individuals could take the lives of another immensely large group of people. Society often mistake mass murders to its close cognation with serial murder and spree killers. The terminology “mass murder” was acclimated around 1980 to establish an individual or group of individuals who kill many (three and more) at once. Some types of mass murders committed by individuals are Disciple Killers, Family Annihilators, and Disgruntled Employees. However, it is not only individuals that consummate mass murder.
