If a teacher had a gun in your class how would you feel? What if a student gets hold of the weapon, how would you feel? Even if the student means no harm and makes a joke, it’s still a danger towards students. You would feel stressed or scared. After the school shooting in Florida, President Trump made a speech stating teachers should be armed in classrooms because they could shoot an armed intruder and protect their students.
School shootings have been a problem in the recent times. Schools have tried to remedy this problem by adding armed security guards, putting security measures, and putting in metal detectors. The government only way of trying to help is by arming teachers. As effective as it sounds, this idea has many major drawbacks. Arming teacher will prove troublesome because training with guns is time consuming, guns in the hands of a teacher will make students uncomfortable, and teachers with gun does not ensure safety in the time of an emergency.
The shootings that have happened in schools throughout America over the past few months has divided Americans on what they need to do as a nation to stop additional shootings from occouring. Many believe that creating new laws on buying weapons by requiring background checks, holding adults liable for the actions of their kids and requiring safety devices on weapons to stop youngsters will stop these massacres in schools from happening, it 's a step in the right direction, however, it 's not good enough nor is it effective enough, America needs well regulated gun laws and the politicians must understand that the laws should be based on facts, not opinions. There are several problems that need to be looked at in order to determine which laws are necessary. According to a recent study, America has the highest amount gun related deaths every year in the world. “Germany, has 371 gun related deaths, France 255, Canada 165, the united kingdom 68, Australia 65, Japan 39 and America, 11,200”.
Many things can happen inside of schools, including unexpected things. There are dangers in schools that without the proper equipment to defend against it can result in death. That equipment are guns. When people threaten the school with guns and violence, then we the students and staff need to be ready to counter the intruder. If we do not counter the intruder there could be injuries and even death.
We negate the resolution that teachers should be armed due to the waste of money, time, and safety. We would like to present the following definitions: Armed is defined by merriam-webster to be furnished with weapons Weapon is defined by merriam-webster to be something used to injure, defeat, or destroy. We believe this resolution is asking us to advocate to negate and our opponents to advocate to affirm.
Should Teachers Carry Guns in School? Ever since the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, there has been a massive upsurge of gun rights activists and anti-gun protesters clashing heads. Recently, President Donald Trump stated that teachers should be authorized to carry guns to help protect the students in these situations. There are many supporters to Trump's ideas but there are also many protesters to the idea.
Teachers having protection Did you know there was 52 school shootings in the United States just this year. Many could have been prevented simply by allowing teachers to carry an armed weapon, while they are on school grounds. Yes, they would be some important issues to discuss, but it would make students, school staff members and even parents feel safer while they are on school ground. Why should we allow students and teachers be in danger everyday while they go to there jobs and to school, Once a teacher gets their teaching degree, they would be required to take a hands on weapon training, allowing them to be able to carry a weapon in a safe manner at all times. At this training they will learn, how to properly shoot a gun,
The U.S is one of the biggest advocates for gun rights and also the world leading country for gun ownership. Most recent data shows that we hold first place for country with the most guns per capita at 88.8 per 100 persons.(cbcnews.com) You would think that a country that supports gun ownership that much would allow for them to be carried everywhere with certain exceptions. Our right to keep a gun is protected by the second amendment, which says “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” One of the most controversial topics regarding guns is weather or not we should be allowed to carry them on school buildings.
As life goes on, we have no clue what is going to happen tomorrow, as many of us just live life as it goes but in reality, we should think of situations such as a fire, intruder, kidnapping etc. situations. There has been staff and students killed in shootings at Columbine high School in Colorado in 1999, Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012 and now at Stoneman Douglas in Florida, where or who is next? No one is expecting this kind of situation nor are they well prepare for them. Schools preform drills such as shelter-in-place, lockdown, evacuation, drop, cover, and hold in case of an earthquake etc.
Death is unexpected but sometimes preventable; would you ever send your loved one to a place where their safety could be compromised? Schooling takes up approximately seventeen years of your life and is a government enforced activity for minors to attend a form of schooling for a certain length of time before permissible for dropping out. Unfortunately, more than five hundred school shootings have been recorded dating back to 1764. When is the right time to take action and stop mass killings in schools? The first step could be placing metal detectors on the outside of school doors to not only physically, but also psychologically help students and faculty by putting an end to school killings.
