One of the more difficult subjects that lose interest among students is math. Math can be challenging for some students to understand. According to Minetola, Ziegenfuss, & Kent Chrisman (2014), combining math terminology with students' current learning ability, increased brain tiredness or anxiety caused by the required focus needed for longer periods of time. Breaks are necessary when learning. The importance of Math in the world is used as a tool to help create evidence and advancements in the world today.
This allows the students to be productive with students of a different culture. Students performed math problems with students who may have learned certain things differently than them. This acknowledges the progress of students learning from each other and working as one. The mathematics teacher also provided his students every opportunity to ask questions and tackle any problem that they needed help with. The diversity of the group brings out different approaches to confront any math problem.
I think we should change the way of testing because it causes stress to lots people. The way we test takes up time that could be used to learn something new. The first piece of evidence that I have, is that the tests cause stress to many people. The text stated, “Tests cause lots of stress and anxiety to people.” Some reasons are that parents believe that teachers have been “teaching to the test” throughout the years. It states that when teachers get stressed about the tests, they stress out the students.
It is safe to assume that the level of difficulty of the math alone would not be enough to elicit such an intense reaction, which means that other negative experiences must be in effect. Whether it be the fear of being labelled as dumb for not being able to do math—which Lia relates to—or the memories of math class in grade school, people carry this math anxiety with them. Ashcraft goes on to place some of the blame on how “U.S. culture abounds with attitudes that foster math anxiety: Math is thought to be inherently difficult (as Barbie dolls used to say, ‘Math class is hard’)” (Ashcraft 181). People who have suffered from math anxiety—victims of the
This is a sad reality for many high school math students they are obsessed with the right answer. I find that the beauty of math is in the process, and if students learn to care more for that instead I think they will understand more math. While being stressed is definitely my biggest weakness in math my biggest strength would be conceptualizing problems in new ways. Often when I was in college of high school when math becomes more complex and there are more than one way to solve the problem I would enjoy exploring that. I would try and look for the most effective way to solve problems it helped me to avoid the trap of getting the right answer being the goal.
Grades are one of the biggest stresses in middle school. With all of the big tests and the fear that if you fail then your whole future is ruined. Also most kids feel that they are always doing something for school, whether it is studying or homework they often feel the urge to cheat on them. Most schools are based on standardized tests and how well you do on them, middle schoolers are very stressed on a regular bases. Grades can cause many different things to happen to students like loads of stress.
Most of the times they have young children who don’t speak a word of English. These students are then thrown into our education system not knowing our language. In a result, the school and teacher get into trouble for having low academic scores. There have been new strategies for English language learners in the classroom; however, it is difficult to meet all the ELL students’ needs. There
Time and I went and observed Mr.Sundance’s math concepts class. Upon hearing that this class has students from different backgrounds and cultures, my preconception was formed. My preconception was based on previous experiments and it was that the class will be a big mess since not all students came from the same grade and age group. I have been in math classes where students came from different grades and the teacher has a really hard time teaching the class because the older students seem to understand concepts better than the younger students. This created a big gap in gardes that the students received as well as the speed in which they move on forward to the next concepts.
